  1. ok decided not to bring the beyer dt150 because they are in need of pad replacements. the pads "melt" and sound changes a little so maybe not.

will have to source for the more durable dt100 pads.

    Hi,

If you find a more durable replacement pads for the DT150, please let me know, I have the same problem.

  2. In audio, source is everything. There's always some lossless even when converting from cd to loseless format. CDP is different, it read directly from cd itself and has better driver, power supply, etc than computer which improve sound. Not only the DAC play a part. So a budget cdp using a cheap DAC will usually sound better than a external DAC using computer as source.

I believe the next meet by Stereo will enable you to compare the difference. Let your ear be the judge.

    Some nice reading:

Thanks for the advice. I have more than 4 CDPs including a portable one all at different price range. They all sound different and the best one I have is from Stereo. But even my best CDP sounds better with an external DAC.

But you know, one man's meat is another man's poison.

I normally listen to CDPs only for speakers. For headphones, I find CDPs too cumbersome. Anyway, you don't have to like what I like and vice versa. We all can be different.

    Peace. :))

  3. Bro, get a proper source instead. A budget cdp will give you better result. Think of a DAC chip like a computer processor. What you pay is what you get. A good DAC is never cheap.

Every CDP also got DAC what. Cheap CDP got cheap DAC. So I don't understand your recommendation. Want to elaborate?

  4. The problem is the word audiophile in your post. Nothing that is audiophile will be cheap. For example, I have a Tivoli system as well and it is not audiophile. Even for background music it aggravates me. But my wife likes it and I will have to live with it.

Perhaps a low cost set up maybe a T-amp with some cheaper but still good speakers eg. Usher or Tannoy. I have a DIY T-Amp type amp with Tannoy speakers and it is quite listenable. It's possible to source factory made T-Amps in Singapore but I don't know the cost.

    Good luck with your search.

  5. Can buy this from online store in HK for much cheaper. I don't have the url on hand but will find it and post it ASAP.

Scroll down and you will see the adaptors. About $3+ each. Minimum order is S$40. Bought the AW-OP_ada(SMD)B adaptor, for SMD -> DIP.

Don't know if it is cheap compared to others. Comments welcome, I am learning too.

  6.

Hmm.. how much does that cost? Does it have variable temperature function like a soldering station does? ESD safe?

Sorry, forgot the price but certainly cheaper than a station. The temperature is adjustable with a screw driver but no display. And because it is temperature controlled, it doesn't go all black if left on.

I never have problem with ESD in Singapore, our weather is too humid for static build-up. I don't work in aircon room, the fumes will get you.

I have bought a cheap soldering station from Koba before but the control doesn't really work, it was either too hot or not hot enough, eventually junked it. You get what you pay for, I guess.

  7. Thanks for your comments, jojo_b2. For the record, each mod has their own way of handling things. I normally would not delete the entire thread but delete all sale information and put in a reason for deleting it.

But I also don't blame other mods for not explaining as it is very frustrating to keep having to encounter post from people who either never read the rules or more likely, ignore them.

I hope you won't take things too personally and just get involve and you will soon get your 50 posts.

  8. Wishing all sgheadphones forumers and visitors and very Happy Chinese New Year and a prosperous and healthy new year too.

Don't think about the "R" word the next few days. Enjoy the time of the year when the family and friends get together, a much too rare thing in a busy world today. Together, things won't look so bad.
