  1. Ermmm....

    1. Senn HD600

    2. Clone PPA

    3. MD player

    4. PC with Audigy.... Nah, too heavy.

    5. PS2... Nah... no.gif

Just the first 3 item as I am going to a wedding later...

I think I'll bring a Lambe Berger lamp just in case someone foot stinko!!! lol.gif

Suggest the smell that you like (if you know what I am talking and of course I am not going to sell anything!!!):

Green tea (very light sweet smell)

    Ocean (strong sweet smell)

    Rose (rose?)

Ginseng (yuck, tried ginseng sweet before?) kicking.gif

  2. Yup, sames goes to my HD600.. no.gif Including my fiirst headphone (SONY) and the 10 meter Panasonic.

Problem for me bringing out... mad.gif

That is why other models are shorter so that you buy another version... Good marketing!!! biggrin.gif

  3. Envious, I've got to work and by the time I get down to SLT, most of the shops are closed. When I go there on Sat, they are not even opened. I had been more reluctant to try DIY.

Have you taken a look at Pass Labs? I was told that the old A40 amp may be used to drive headphones ...

I can go there directly after work, reach there fastest 5.30... biggrin.gif

Hmmm, Pass Labs. Will take note of this...

    Goodnight!!! yawn.gif

  4. I heard of ppl stacking 10 for each channel, guess it's a gross overkill!!!

    10!!! w00t.gif

Definately an overkill. I am also currently looking at other possibility instead of the meta42.

I like to build some new circuit, is there anyone out there willing to test for me.

Instead of using 2 opamp and 3 buffer, I may try to buy 2 special Audio amp IC (TAD2030h) to replace the part of the meta42 design. Current THD for that IC is 0.1% and I don't know how is the META42 THD.Anyone got link to that???

A better version of that IC cost more than S$100 per stereo channel! no.gif

The cheap and good one less than S$10.

Maybe go down Sim ling tower tomorrow. beer.gif

  5. After sleepless night playing around with my PC to test it's sound system, finally I got some results!

Sound card: Creative Audigy Platinum (not the cheap S$100 one)

Driver: Latest driver from creative Audigy AUDDRVPACK_L11.EXE

Test software: RMAA 5.0 from http://audio.rightmark.org/download.html

Source and record frequency: 48kHz 16bit

    Test 1:

To test the internal PC for noise and respond.

    Play control unmute Wave/MP3

Recording control select "What you hear"

Record level set to -1dB in RMAA software

    Results 1:

Frequency response (from 20 Hz to 20 kHz), dB: +0.00, -0.00 (Upper and lower range must be below 0.5dB to be consider good)

Noise level, dB (A): -101.7 (-95dB is consider good for professional)

Dynamic range, dB (A): 96.3 (Biger better?)

THD, %: 0.0014 (Total harmonic disturbance 0 is good)

IMD, %: 0.0069 (0 is good, % increase means loss of data during record)

Stereo crosstalk, dB: -102.9 (Lower better)

    Conclusion 1:

Internally, the PC does not generate any noise that interfere with music capability. If you like MP3, ripping at 192kHz would be pretty safe.

Note: I had all the motor appliance off. rolleyes.gif

    Test 2:

To test the Audigy card amplification capability.

Play control unmute Wave/MP3 and Line in

    Recording control select Analog mix

Select do not play Line in source

Connect 'CHEAP' cable between Line in and Headphone output jack

Record level set to -1dB in RMAA software

    Results 2:

Frequency response (from 20 Hz to 20 kHz), dB: +0.02, -0.2 (Upper and lower range must be below 0.5dB to be consider good)

Noise level, dB (A): -82.3 (-95dB is consider good for professional, -90dB is for normal listener)

Dynamic range, dB (A): 82.5 (Biger better?)

THD, %: 0.0027 (Total harmonic disturbance 0 is good)

IMD, %: 0.465 (0 is good, % increase means loss of data during record)

Stereo crosstalk, dB: -77.8 (Lower better)

    Conclusion 2:

I had detected noise at the Line in input and the headphone output. When I turn the headphone volume control knob more than 50%, all goes haywire; distortion. Same goes to Line in. no.gif

I definately need an extra amp for better amplification, cannot use the cards amplifier capability.

As the results are based on both Line in and headphone output, will need to check for stray noise at the output to know how much is it emmiting. If I can use only 20% of amplification (instead of more than 50%) without much intereference.

I will definately stick to this combination for awhile:

    PC>meta42>HD600

  6. definately cd player and amp

mp3 (esp those 128 kbps one) just doesn't cut it.

Yup. MP3 only plays frequency that the human ear can hear as a way to compress music.

    What about this config:

Use a CD player and play a CD.

Connect the CD player directly to the Audigy card.

Using the Audigy as an amplifier.

Will the result be same as cd player and amp?

    Thanks

  7. Ater comparing music with my crap Panasonic, it is a total new sensation. By testing the music using MP3 running on Audigy Platinum, it is enough to drive the HD600 (not too loud please).

Now as a newbie, does a good amplifier boost the performance if I continue to listen to MP3.

Or a better performance will be achive by listning using CD and an amplifier.

    Please help, thanks...

FYI. HD600 selling $440 at Hung Brothers, pay cash.
