Just attended her concert yesterday night at the esplanade. A really good entertainer.

Pretty sure not many of us have heard of this new phono pre-amp. Apparently it has received quite a rave review from Michael Fremer of Stereophile who compares it with a $26,000 phono pre-amp. Sound really interesting!
Links to the reveiws are attached.

Do I spy a pair of WBT RCA outputs there? The nut should be round with 3 holes if they're WBT.. =)I don't think it is a WBT RCA output.

A pic of the insides of the Cary303/300 taken from the cary websiteLooks well designed.. Mechanically as well.. They seem to have redesigned the loader mech. Should be more sturdy.. Good use of R-core, bobbin transformer as well.. They're known to be better for digital supplies. Tranditional E/ C core type transformer for the tube stage too.. Nice... Neat layout as well.. You've definitely got what you paid for... Remember to invite me over once the burn-in is complete.. LOL..
Sure thing. Maybe a couple of weeks more.

Guess if you patient enough, you can wait. The other headphone/earspeaker you may want to try is the AKG K1000.
-
Can't do that. The cdp, amp, all the tubes and the speakers are burning in.
-
I guess at the end of the day is the synergy between the cdp, the amp and the speakers.

Thanks. I just dropped by the shop and I bought the SR-60 already. Sounds great with my iPod too! Were you the one that bought 2 pairs of SR60?
-
Anybody knows when is the shop opening? It has been 7 days into CNY and its still closed. And what's its opening hours? Thanks. It will be opened by today. Normally it's open after lunch, about 1pm.

are those DHcones for sale?Sorry, not for sale for the time being.

Anyway some information about this new cdp. It has a choice of a tube output using a pair of 12AU7s or a solid state output. Upsamples all the way till 768kHz.

I think that's a Cary SLI-80 signature not just a SLI-80. And the 6922 tubes look like Mullards CV-2492 (http://www.tubedepot.com/nos-cv2492.html) or Siemens CCa and the 6SN7 look like Miniiwatt (Philips Holland). Hey I have x-ray vision LOL.Also what leng was saying is that the 300sei is more suited for horn speakers.
Sharp eyes. Well they are the Mullards CV2492. I do have the Siemens CCa as well. The difference between the stock and the signature is that the signature version comes with oil caps and the ability to switch betwen triode (40Watts) and Ultralinear(80Watts).

Ha ha, Leng, I very much doubt you are a retiring head-fier leh!Almost semi retired, listening to speakers more often these days.
-
Hi! Leng, first time I heard 4 types of tubes in 1 amp. Is this a typical high end design? I thought normally there are only 2 sets of tubes (or at least those my friends owned used only have 2 types). Knowing tubes will affect the sonic characteristics, what will be the case for an amp with 4 types of tubes? I suppose the preamp tubes and the power tubes will play bigger roles in terms of affecting sonic characteristics of the amp?U must be having a very good time with your new, sexy toy!
Definately having a good time tube rolling. So far been tube rolling the pre-amp tubes, 6922s. Will be upgrading the rectifier tubes and trying some power tubes sometime later.
-
Pretty certain its an integrated amp, otherwise, the transformers will be an overkill for a pure headamp. Monetary damage must be rather extensive. Woo... but what a start to audio nirvana..........be it cans or speakers system.Purpose of buying this amp was to drive speakers not so much of headphones. The previous amp I bought, the CAD 300SEI was more suited for horns speakers. However a good pairs of horns will set me back by at least 16K.

Barradio: I have already bought the CD303/200. Not too sure if MbD has the 306 in stock.
Fuwen: It uses the 6922 as pre-amp tubes, 6SN7s as phase inverter, 6550 as power tubes and 5U4 as rectifier tubes. The EL34 and the KT88 can be used in this amp as well.
av98m: Oh ya they are definately similing on me, bought myself some new tubes, more on the way!

the main genres i listen to are rock, blues, classical, oldies, new age and a little metal. but i was expecting it to have reasonable performance for rock, but then again i dun haf a good interconnect and a good amp and cdp, so its still early to tell, if reli sway sway not my cup of tea den ill just let this one go and try another oneill slowly upgrade as i go along, but one thing is for sure i wun vomit 400 over bucks for a headphone cable upgrade, thats just so wrong for a headphone i bought for 210Â
Believe me, I have tried various more than decent amps, cdp, interconnects and the various replacement cables with the HD600. They are not not suited for rock or fast paced music. It still can't beat a a SR225 paired with PCDP.

One thing about the HD600, you really need an good amp to pair with it. If you are really on a budget, do consider the grado RA1, it does a pretty good job driving the HD600.
