  1. A pic of the insides of the Cary303/300 taken from the cary website

Looks well designed.. Mechanically as well.. They seem to have redesigned the loader mech. Should be more sturdy.. Good use of R-core, bobbin transformer as well.. They're known to be better for digital supplies. Tranditional E/ C core type transformer for the tube stage too.. Nice... Neat layout as well.. You've definitely got what you paid for... Remember to invite me over once the burn-in is complete.. LOL..

Sure thing. Maybe a couple of weeks more.

  2. I think that's a Cary SLI-80 signature not just a SLI-80. And the 6922 tubes look like Mullards CV-2492 (http://www.tubedepot.com/nos-cv2492.html) or Siemens CCa and the 6SN7 look like Miniiwatt (Philips Holland). Hey I have x-ray vision LOL.

Also what leng was saying is that the 300sei is more suited for horn speakers.

Sharp eyes. Well they are the Mullards CV2492. I do have the Siemens CCa as well. The difference between the stock and the signature is that the signature version comes with oil caps and the ability to switch betwen triode (40Watts) and Ultralinear(80Watts).

  3. Hi! Leng, first time I heard 4 types of tubes in 1 amp. Is this a typical high end design? I thought normally there are only 2 sets of tubes (or at least those my friends owned used only have 2 types). Knowing tubes will affect the sonic characteristics, what will be the case for an amp with 4 types of tubes? I suppose the preamp tubes and the power tubes will play bigger roles in terms of affecting sonic characteristics of the amp?

U must be having a very good time with your new, sexy toy! smile.gif

Definately having a good time tube rolling. So far been tube rolling the pre-amp tubes, 6922s. Will be upgrading the rectifier tubes and trying some power tubes sometime later.

  4. Pretty certain its an integrated amp, otherwise, the transformers will be an overkill for a pure headamp.  Monetary damage must be rather extensive.  ohmy.gif  Woo... but what a start to audio nirvana..........be it cans or speakers system.

Purpose of buying this amp was to drive speakers not so much of headphones. The previous amp I bought, the CAD 300SEI was more suited for horns speakers. However a good pairs of horns will set me back by at least 16K.

  5. Barradio: I have already bought the CD303/200. Not too sure if MbD has the 306 in stock.

Fuwen: It uses the 6922 as pre-amp tubes, 6SN7s as phase inverter, 6550 as power tubes and 5U4 as rectifier tubes. The EL34 and the KT88 can be used in this amp as well.

av98m: Oh ya they are definately similing on me, bought myself some new tubes, more on the way!

  6. the main genres i listen to are rock, blues, classical, oldies, new age and a little metal. but i was expecting it to have reasonable performance for rock, but then again i dun haf a good interconnect and a good amp and cdp, so its still early to tell, if reli sway sway not my cup of tea den ill just let this one go and try another one

ill slowly upgrade as i go along, but one thing is for sure i wun vomit 400 over bucks for a headphone cable upgrade, thats just so wrong for a headphone i bought for 210

Believe me, I have tried various more than decent amps, cdp, interconnects and the various replacement cables with the HD600. They are not not suited for rock or fast paced music. It still can't beat a a SR225 paired with PCDP.
