Finally got my pot from Federal...but still crappy. I think I've narrowed down the problems.

1. I'm using wrong caps - 25v 470uF rubycons. (Doubt this is wrong, tropicalrips gave these to me), and am using 9V.

2. Some of my opamps are fried. All my ground opamps(lm6171 and lm6181) produce oscillations. And it gets pretty bad when using 2228's and 2227's.

3. The board is flux cleaned.

Strange thing is, just after soldering the pot in, I tested the sound and it was quite ok, even with 2227's. Now there's oscillations.

Any ideas?

I think that would depend on the caps and resistors your using.

Well, I only have a hd280pro to bring along, don't have any other good stuff.

Well, it's not that I don't know how to drill or anything...I just need to see someone mark out drilling position, etc. Cause if I make a mistake, it's costly for me.

Thanks jasonhanjk, hope to see you this sun. Btw, do you do drilling too? Don't have a drill at home, and I don't want to screw it up then go all the way down to eunos just to get another casing. Need to follow an experienced diyer.

For the first one, I suspect some burnt sockets, but then again, I didn't clean the board properly, burnt a cap, and possibly damaged the board because of all the heat from taking out leftover wire stubs from some troubleshooting.

So this time, I'm just going to I don't mind travelling to tampines, I stay in jurong. For now, still awaiting my pot from Federal. Maybe I'll come by this Sun?

Basically, there are several factors to consider. Isolation, music preferrence, and budget. No, I did not burn in overnight for 2 months!!! After awhile when listening to them, I noticed a change in the bass characteristics, hence my conclusion. Warning, though, they've got pretty high microphonics, so you'd usually hear the sounds of your own footsteps when you're walking.

Overall, I find the ep630 quite lively but balanced. I can get decent bass, mids and highs from it. Nothing special, but coupled with the isolation, and it's really worth the money.

Aye, md33/ep630's should do justice to your music. AFAIK, you need to burn them in for a month or 2. After that, you'll definitely get deeper bass.

Warning though, call them first before thinking of going down to collect.

Just asking...but how long does it take for Federal to recieve components from Farnell that weren't in stock? Been waiting almost a week and a half, and still no stock from them...

Does it do opamp rolling? Like Dr. Amp?

As for the brands you mentioned, I've tried the sennheiser hd28pro and Koss k24p, both offer good isolation and pretty decent sound with reasonable impedances.

I dare not ask what price it comes at, lest I die of jealousy What price is it, anyway?

i use a zen micro...but the back get's scratched just as easily....i recommend a silicon skin
