  1. It looks real solid. I don't believe that the sound produced would be much better than those cheaper versions. Perphas only very slight improvement maybe. Personally feels that it is overpriced. Bargain hard when you are buying. The fair price IMHO is $25.

  2. Noob when it comes to soldering, as well as diy. Agree with Firefox (hey, I'm using you right now) that a socketed one would be better.

Appreciate the work that you have done in getting this out to us and with detailed instructions, no less.

Do keep up the good work.

  3. I would tend to agree with idkfa. Chuck the stock headphone and get a better one. For MP3 player, it has been noted that the Iriver and Creative line of players sound better with the Ipod. The other advantage that these players have over the Ipod is customizable equalizer.

IMHO, the Etymotic series would probably suit your kind of music more.

  4. Heard the shuffle 1g version, curtesy of my bro-in-law with the default cans. Felt that a better headphone would do wonder for the sound. But apparently, he is satisfied with the default ones. Well, to each his own, I guess. Actually wanted to recommend the e3c to him, but refrain from doing so.

  5. Personally, I would say the MDR888 beats the hell out of the MDR81, soundwise. Definitely, not recommended as an upgrade. For around $100, perhaps a better option would be to try headphones instead of earbuds or canalphones.

  6. Absolute0, good recommendation!

Depending on your budget and also the source. Understand that the Ipod has a line out and the Zen does not. Because of this, believe that the Ipod will benefit most from using an amp. If you like customisation, go for the Supermacro. Believe it also has the option of a bass boost.
