  1. I suggest the k81dj and sf5eb for a total budget of $400+. But the proportions of allocation are different from what you wanted.

Otherwise at under a $150 price point IEM, you can try the Mylarones XB

Both choices are excellent for bassheads but I think they fail at "comfort" and "clarity". I'm guessing wdEva isn't a basshead and recommend Westone UM1 for IEM and Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 for headphone ( stretching your headphone budget another $50 or so). I got a pair of ANC7 from stereo weeks ago and I'm very happy with it's performance considering it's actually a noice canceling headphone.

  2. I've called stereo electronics and they said that k12p and k14p hasbeen discontinued and they are currently out of stock .

It seems that there are new akg earbuds models which are k310p,k312p and k314p . How do they fair when compared to k12p/k14p ?

PLZ HELP, i wanted to buy a good earphone ASAP.

Why not give canalphone a try? They are more comfortable and provides better isolation.

  3. In term of a clear sounding earphone below $70, no doubt I'll recommend the cresyn e630/ue biflange combo ( add to only $50) excellent vocal reproduction and clean treble. It used to be a highly recommended earphone before the mylar's appeared, I have both the mylar3 and cresyn and I'll suggest the cresyn unless you find the bass too little for your preference.

    My 2cents.

  4. Nofing gets my point. Balanced armature driver USUALLY doesn't over emphasize a specific sound spectrum.

i mean balanced armature drivers sound more balanced compared to dynamic drivers. A lot of dynamic drivers emphasize on a specific sound spectrum, say the creative EP630 which emphasizes a lot on the bass, making them sound kinda boomy and muddy.

Then again, i heard that if there are 2 or more balanced armature drivers in an IEM, the sound becomes different unlike single balanced armature drivers. Like the UM2s, the bass sounds really big compared to the UM1. I think it is due to the dedicated dual balanced armature drivers where 1 produces the lows, and the other produde the mids and highs.

"However, multiple-driver earphones tend to have the problems of inaccurate spacing and emphasis in the bass department, thus losing some fidelity. This is compensated by a couple of technologies, such as routing a balanced armature to handle a dedicated range of notes, utilizing a specialized port (or air duct) to allow air to flow through the armature for increased efficiency, and utilizing inline crossovers to ensure accurate reproduction of high, mid, and low notes to rectify these weaknesses." -- quote from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/headphones about balanced armature drivers.

Whatever it is, both driver technologies have their pros and cons.

I don't know if this is true, but i've heard somewhere in the forums that stated that balanced armature and mylar drivers are prone to humidity. Is this true?

So which means the creative aurvana sounds more balanced than the crossroad mylar? And creative aurvana sounds just as balanced as westone um1?

I'm wondering now looking at my old er-6i why are the treble and mids more prominent than the bass.... :bash:

I'm just puzzled by the fact that if all single armature drivers are balanced by default then why all single armature iems all sound different, like some bassier and some not....

  5. Totally. Jaben has a variety of IEMs and Cans for you to try.

I don't know whether stereo has a plethora of phones to try on, but they do let you try earphones too.

Just one thing, don't try the ones that are out of your budget or the ones that offer a better sound.

You'll find the sound to be "WHOA WHOA WEE WAA" and then compare it to your cheap ones.

You probably haven't step into stereo yet, in terms of range I don't think any shop in Singapore can match them. And yes, they allow you to try headphones and earphones. Best guy to look for is Aron.

  6. iGrado is that cheap. its original or former name is SR-40 which were headband phones... you may wan to cancel because its kinda tight. kinda clips your head... IEMs are those earbuds using different principle; different from earphones. IEMs dont use dynamic ^_^ tranducers.

IEM don't use dynamic transducers? I think the Shure E2G uses dynamic transducer.

  7. hi guys, i know there are many choices out there such as shure e2g, UE Super.fi 3 Studio, UE Super.fi 5 Pro, Westone UM1, Crossroads Mylarthree etc.. but i don't which to choose. buget $200 max

uses: PSP - gaming, music & movies

    : samsung k5- mp3

balanced sound, good clarity, good noise isolation and durability. design wise anything. if can, value for money

wanted to get the shure e2g due to decent reviews in the first place but read that it is overpriced, not that great and cheaper ones like crossroads mylarthree offer better value for money?

**what is the difference between UE super.fi studio 5EB and 5Pro?

Both 5eb and 5pro are dual driver iem, 5eb are designed for bassheads as the eb means extended bass and 5pro is definitely a more balanced iem but both I believe are above your $200 budget.

For isolation, I would rate the UM1 follow by the mylars and then superfis. For durability, no question its the UM1.

For me, UM1 provides better clarity among the lot, following the superfi 3 and then mylars.

Lastly in terms of comfort, mylars and UM1 are great but definitely not the UEs.

  8. Hi , I just need some help regarding ear phones. I currently own 2 pairs, a Sony MDR-EX81SL and a pair of sony earphones that came with my w850i. Firstly, I want to know what is the correct way to wear the earphones. When i put on the large sized buds, it doesnt fit all the way in, meaning i cannot hear the bass as well and ambient noises can be heard. This problem is solved by using the mid sized buds, but then there is another problem. However, when I walk or when the chord is lightly tugged, there will be a loud sound.Sort of like when you tap the earphones against your ears.

Next, I am interested in buying a new pair of earphones. I have read around the forum and mostly people reccomend the UM-1 and Mylar3. However, I want to know if there are any earphones that have the convenience of the apple in-ears and the fit of the sonys. In other words, I am looking for earphones that have no need for extension cables , and both cables are of the same length just like the apple in ears, not with one longer and one shorter like the sonys.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

UM1 is my choice but you should also consider the new Panasonic HJE700 around $70++ it's quite good too.

  9. So release date is still like...indefinite?

"As soon as possible" can be a long time away...

Man! i'm contemplating between e500 and westone 3....can i hold out that long?

Gald I didn't wait for the Westone 3, got the E530 2 months ago and enjoying it until I feel the need to change to the Westone 3 on a god knows when it will come day.

  10. I tried the silver anniversary but didn't do much to the bass and I didn't like the way it made a lot of my piano tracks sound a bit shrill. Tried to change from Canare F12 to the Switchcraft mini but didn't seem to help a lot too. Hope you have better luck. B)

I tried your new Alessandro MS-1 mod at your shop yesterday night when you were not around, it's damn good! what is it all about? I see the cable was different but the MS-1 sounds so different from the one I have at home that I had a feeling you did something to it....
