  1. The Grado 325i shouldn't even be brought into counsideration when we're talking about soundstaging and all... I've heard it a few times and each time, its the lack of soundstage that's probably their weakness.

Talking about out of the head sound, a few cans come to my mind. First off, we have the AKG-K1000, ATH-AD2000, ATH-L3000, as well as the AKG-K701. For me, I find that the W1000 doesn't offer you what you are looking for. I've tried them and maybe its also due to personal preferences or our definition of out of the head...Anyway, I personally dislike the W1000's alot because of its thin yet thick sort of sound. It has anaemic bass for a pair of closed cans and the highs are a little edgy.

I can't comment on Beyers because I've not heard anyone of them long enough to tell the differences...

  2. It sounded worse than snake oil to me...Haven't given it a try and I'am still in doubt as to whether would it work or not. However, its worth a try since is free. But why can such minusicle vibrations and resonance by the molecules in the coins make sonic differences that re actually noticeable? Even if the natural frequency of the coin was the same as the driving frequency from the vibrations of the headphones/ whatever equipment that you have, wouldn't it still be too small to be discerned? mellow.gif

Bah, I think I'll just give it a try and give u the results...Btw, Mackie, where do i place the coins on? The cups of the headphones?

  3. Nope, haven't got a chance to touch them..... heard they use a detactable QED made cord, issit true? They sure look comfy.... headphone.gif

Not sure whether its made by QED, but its apparently designed and engineered by QED..

Comfy.. mm.. oh yeah they are.. disappears after 2 mins or so..

Wow, that's a rare pair of cans you've got huh? I beleive that they're British made? Heard them sometime ago. They sure have some resemblance to the Senns but fuglier imo tongue.gif

  4. wonder how much would the e500 cost from headroom?  unsure.gif

You interested? biggrin.gif If so, PM me, the price is good! w00t.gif

I dunno if sharing order will be a good idea. Afterall, this is a big ticket item.

    E500's accessories:

    - Comes with E4 fit kit; all the tips, level attenuator etc.

    - PTH module.

    - 9 inch extension.

    - 3 foot extension.

    - Carrying case. (I hope it will be a decent hard shell case)

I don't mind. But why MO? Will that get us some discounts? Its really vry tempting. New new cans this year to get....First the GS-1k now this...Its partly ur fault... tongue.gif

  5. wenjia, now you have Razer's view, the next thing you need to do a demo. Trust only your own ear, YOU're the one who is going to listen to your own favourite tracks, be it on HD650 or K701 or etc. Make a trip to stereo E or Anything audio, unless you're not residing here. Then you'll know the REAL answer.Demo is all within reach and FOC, go for it! wink.gif

    Couldn't agree more to that!

  6. I see that no one here is answering his question. He's asking about the K701 and the HD650. For me, I would prefer the K701 because of the more expansive headstage and brilliant highs that makes it sound very well with the HD650. Also, as a personal preference, the more upfront sounding K701 seems to be better suited to Newage Music of your genre.

  7. Razer, one question to ask. How does it compare to the SA5k?

Its got great highs like the SA5000 but not to the point of being a tad to harsh to the ears. Vocals are smooth and lush and there is a tinge of warmth that's pretty much absent in the SA5000. Details are superb and the greaatest things about these cans are the Spaciousness and Airyness that's pretty much refreshing.

The bass has more impact and and almost as tight as that of the SA5000 and it also goes down pretty deep. IMO, its a HD650 killer provided that the slightly laid back sound is not your cup of tea. For me, its one of the best and favourite cans in my miny collection. You could go down to stereo or come over to my place for an audition anytime!

  8. Is this thread trying to get me to be more and more sorry for my wallet? tongue.gif

Is the AD2000 is going waaayy above the HD650 price? I am hoping to keep to a budget of around $300+. So unless I find the HD650 or others in that price range and above so much better than the others of around $300+, I will try not to kill my wallet. I am using the headphone amp in the Benchmark DAC1. The chaps at Benchmark do their listening with HD600 (and some with HD650).

Can someone try to tell me what the AT "house" sound is? If Beyers are supposed to be lively and Senns to be warm with bass, what about AT?

ATH headphones doesn't really have a house sound imo. For instance, the ES7 has a very different approach to sound as compared to the AD2000. Then again, the AD2000 has a sound signature that is not found in the W1000. And then again, the W1000 and the L3000 sounds really different.

As for the price of the AD2000, I'am sorry to say that you wouldn't be able to get it LOCALLY for anything under $800.

  9. K701 is available for trial at AA, accordingly to shop keeper, he waited since Christmas, huge pair of cans, very iPod like creamy white finish, comfort is tip-top, price is WOW ex! typical AKG character, not my cuppa of tea though sleep.gif

I got my K701's during last year december. Till now, I've tried to Massage the Ear Pads every now and then to soften them but to no avail. hammer.gif Its hurting my jaw joint area during long hours of listening... ppth.gif

  10. This site seems pro beyer....  Must start my personal crusade to convert everyone to AT....

Half a glass of water perceptions apply, perhaps you are anti-beyer? tongue.gif

Actually the recommended places have a significant common factor............auditions are allowed and welcomed, plus good sales service without pressure. Incidentally, Aaron and Albert have gained enough credence from fellow forumers. Moreover, Stereo carries Grado, Senn, AT, AKG, Koss etc while AA carries predominantly Beyer and a bit of Ultrasone. Anyone who can suggest another place that offers the abovementioned service and product range will be welcomed.

Anyway, a jedi can only influence the minds of the weak. I don't believe in converting anyone but it's more productive and satisfying for fellow forumers to adopt an open mind and try anything and everthing to discover his palate and improve his sound system. I believe that's the key objective and course to undertake in our forum. Xtremeplace's direction in home theater and Echoloft's in audio systems are good examples.

Haha...I'am ok with Beyers....Just that I find them boring... tongue.gif But I've yet to get my hands on those DT770....really love them lots!
