When there is audio signal, your amp output MUST be zero volt DC!!! If it is not, and say, it is 1.5V DC appearing across the output, it just like coonect the wire of your headphone directly to a battery. The membrance of your transducer will be pushed to the extreme, inward of outward will depend on the polarity. Most modern amp will have a zero dc voltage output due to good feedback characteristic but sometimes, when certain components drift, it is likely you will get DC drift. Normally, it can range froma few millavolts and upwards. Offset voltage is commonly used in Op amp circuitry where DC voltage appearing at the output can be removed by feedback loop or trimming the offset compensation control (available on some op amp IC). DC leakage is a loose term sometimes used for offset voltage. This term is used quite often in Tube amp to describe voltage that is not design or not suppose to be there...like the output. When you are playing music, what appears at the output should be AC voltage...and if you can measure DC, you're in trouble, the bigger the voltage, the higher heat is being dissipated at your headphone coils. I've started DIY electronic from scratch which is only more than a month ago. That's why my portfolio only includes two very simple headamps, the cmoy and apheared47. I probably be doing more opamp base headamps to build up my confidence and knowledge and if the interest still there, then can take alook at transistor base head amps.. Now don't even dare to take a look at Nelson's design. Hopefully one day can build this one, though not by Nelson Pass but concept is there. What headamp you're using? Must one of those solid ones.. Nope, I am not using any headphone amps at the moment. The only one I build was like 25 years ago...using an op amp. Yes, the Zen headphone amp looks great....but wait...what's that thing at the output? What capacitors?? No no, there should be no capacitors in the signal path. The amp I build will always be direct coupled. I do SACD on my Sony SCD-XB780 and DVD-A on my Audigy 2....all direct to headphines. My Sony headphiones is an old pair...I did not managed to find anything better (until now...hee hee)....it's a MDR-88...old discountinued model.... (Audio)

It's me, Ender over at xtremeplace. I'm also kenna bitten by the headamp/phone thing about a month ago.. Now into building headamps. Just need a good headphone to go along and test the headamps. Yah lor... Ender, these people dammn one kind..... Make people spend spend money only..... Now trying to spread disease to all over Singapore somemore... Judging from our movie/ dvd hobby...we are the "easy" victims!! Ender, how come I didn't know that you do DIY electronics...I am also very keen in something something for my Haedphone amp....somany design...which one is best??
