Get those normal Goot brand. Qutie good and can use for a lifetime. Alternatively can buy the Antex brand one. Don;t think there are much use in the trigger, unless you get soldering stations.
I bo lui, so i use Goot brand. Their 25W one with the tip replaced by a finer one has been serving me well.

sry for the inconvenience.
btw, what's the difference between open and closed cans? can n00b here thx.
-
oh ya, i forgot to add this point.
i'm wearing specs, will the gardo can cause discomfort? Thanks again.
btw, read some stuffs abt open n closed cans.. these gardos are closed? Thx again
-
Hung Brothers does not carry Gardo lines. You can audit them at Music by Design at the Adelphi.
ok.. thanks.
-
Dreamie, then build your amp first and use your ears as test. IMO the Beyers can't touch the Grados - any Grados (except maybe the SR-60) for Rock. The SR-125 is well withing your budget and the SR-225 is slightly more at S$350. They kick ass!
Hung Brothers at SLS carry them? Thanks.

What kind of tube amp? This is important because some tube amps cant drive low impedence cans (like the EarMax). Also tube amps can sound bright or dark so tonal synergy may be not there. So let me know what tone you amps is and whether they can handle low impedence cans first. The what's the sonic signature of your source.
If you want one headphone that does it all then get the Beyer DT-931 - if your tube amp is warm sounding. Or the Grado SR-225 if the tube amp can drive low impedence cans. Another alternative is the Beyer DT-880 if you tube or tube hybrid amo is bright sounding like the X-Cans.
All the above cans are avobe your budget but only by a bit - DT-931 is S$330, DT-880 is approx S$450 and the Grado is S$350.
The sencond hand market is of course a better choice but please make sure you can at least test the headphones - you never know how it's been abused.
Beyer DT931 and DT880 seems nice from your description.
May be running tube and solid state altogerther for different genres of music. not sure abt the design of the tube amps i'm building.. no notes, just schematic .. currently running it on a 32ohm can.

AKG K501 or HD580/600 (+cable upgrade if you can get cheap/used) or ATH-W100. Depending on your taste they might not be suitable for rock but I have no problems with the above.Hmmm.....
Any cans for rocking? thx again.. maybe run speakers when i'm rocking and can with other music genre..
-
thx.. but that seems to be for classical.. anything more towards rock? thx
-
As above. Will use it with tubes amp. Price preferably below $300.
Listen mainly to blues, classical, jazz and some rock.
Thank you.

Just go to any ENT clinic.Cheaper alternative is the ENT clinic in Government's hospital. To get subsidised rate, go to polyclinic and get a referral to a hospital ENT clinic of your choice.
Another DIY alternative - 2 drops of olive oil into your blocked ear 3 times a day. After about 2 weeks, the ear wax will soften and dislodge itself as you speak.
But the above is only applicable for blocked ear due to ear wax. Doesn't work for hearling loss due to other condition. In doubt please go see your GP or Polyclinic doctor.
I wouldnt play with the DIY method...
btw, is it ex.? Have ou doen it before? Is it painful? TIA!

ear syringing? how do u do that? how much does it cost? TIA.

just thought of asking this, since this is an audio forum
if so, how frequently. for me, once i feel the itch within

ok.. to clarify some things here. Received some PMs regarding this thread.
This was made by raptor from CMF. I acquired it from him at a extreme low price and modified the circuit within, and made another enclosure for it. I'm in the process of building another tube preamp which should soudn alot better (Tube rectifier ) Also building a tube tone control (for bass and treble). The tone control will use ECC83/12AX7.

Good job, why don't show your creation over at the diyer garage at echoloft too.. I'm sure they'll appreciate your work.If you're building more amps, you might want to consider the TDA7294 chip too. More powerful at 100w.. and it's cheap, at $5 a piece I think. Sound wise it sound rather good. If you built them in mono block version & I'm sure they'll beat those $1000 integrated amp.
echoloft too high-class for me liao
hehe, i'm getting the LM3875 free.
-
You DIY guys just make me so jealous! You can build one too, it is very simple.
-
if oldies classical and jazz are what you listen to, i'd recommend an audition of the akg 501. it's about 140 used or 250 new IIRC.would like one with acceptable bass. I sometimes blast punk rock. hehe.
Thx for your input.

Currentnly embarking on a transistor amp project, followed by a tube amp. Transistor one will be based on the LM3875, whereas tube will be based on the EL84 driven by ECC99. May make another tube preamp based on the 5687 and using tube rectifier, but the price of the choke is putting me offLM3875? For speakers right? Must be the 20W Gainclone monoblocks. Hehe.... Superbly simple project! But they're said to sound very good. =)
One thing to note, it's solid state, not transistor based. The LM3875 is an audio power amplifier; Like an opamp with alot of juice. It's not a transistor like the BD139/ BD140's.
yea.. gainclone
i always call solid state transistor... easier to differentiate between tube and sand state..

what's your max budget?what's your musical preferences?
budget unset, but hop-efully below 200.
listen to all kinds of music, from MOS to jazz to oldies to rock to classical.
-
sennheiser mx300?!with THAT sort of equipment you'd better start saving for something a little more serious.
check out our classifieds forum for some more manly equipment to match that manly amp.
any recommendation? I'm on quite a tight budget now Still got lotsa amps to build...
-
that looks fantastic!you might want to shield that transformer tho..
Hehe.. thanks.
Making a transformer shield using aluminium one of these days. Currentnly embarking on a transistor amp project, followed by a tube amp. Transistor one will be based on the LM3875, whereas tube will be based on the EL84 driven by ECC99. May make another tube preamp based on the 5687 and using tube rectifier, but the price of the choke is putting me off

what sort of design is that based on dreamie?and what cans are you using with it now?
It is based on 6J6. High voltage rail is only 66V at max. It is built by raptor of CMF. I modified the circuit for better sound quality, groundign and ease of use and control. Based on the schematic here: http://www.oatleyelectronics.com/kits/k055.html
It is built on a PCB. More pre-modded info can be foudn in this thread: http://forums.natriumtech.com/viewtopic.php?t=17648
I'm using cheapo $20 Audio Spec headphones. .. the Sennheiser MX300's price tag is tempting me though

After struggling with it for 20 hours over 3 days, I have completed it.
Made using Aluminium and MDF.
Cost:
Gold RCA plug - $0.60 each ($2.40 total)
Knobs - $1.20 each ($4.80 total)
VR - $1 each ($4 total)
Switch - $2
Screws - $6
Tube socket - $1.20 each ($2.40 total)
O-ring for tube socket - $0.40 each ($0.80 total)
3-pin power plug - $1.50
Fuse holder - $2
Fuse - $1
Satisfaction - Priceless
I brushed the aluminium for the brushed look and MDF was mildly sanded. A dim blue LED for indicating power status. (don't wanna blind my eyes) Powered through the mains.
Now just requier a good can to complement this
Diy amp is getting hot here...

Farnel carries the ferric chloride granules... can we just buy it? ASK at SLT sells the ferric chloride granule pack (half a KG) at ard $16.50, Silicon Electronics $17 if my memory serves me right.
