  1. The MDR-EX90SL IS a pair of IEM. Sony's new monitor series. Cost SG149 if I'm not wrong (top of the range model). Sold at local sony galleries. Strange it can't be found at the local sony web site. I wonder why no one bought it yet. If I can remember its uses a magnetic driver like standard earphones (EXTREMLY large one, no kidding). But yet it is a IEM. So it may be able to counter the small sound stage problem in many IEM. Cheers.
  2. Wow, thanks for the quick reply... I tried the s.fi3 too while i was at SE. I couldn't believe it was from the same series as the s.fi5pro. Then again the s.fi5pro is way more costly and spot a dual driver. I've tried many of the sub $250 IEM while choosing my IEM few months ago (including the lower end shure). In the end I got the UM1 due to the lovely warm sound and the comfort fit. Don't get me wrong the UM1 is still a great buy at that price. Its just that after hearing the super.fi 5pro, i just counldn't stop thinking about what more i can have... I will be testing out those around the $300 - 400 range the next time i could find time to go over to SE (I didn't dare to previously cos my budget was $200 then ). Just like to heard more opinion so that I can short list a few when I go get my next IEM. Thanks everyone
  3. Hi guys, hope to get some opinion here. Today I pop over to aron to get the yellow foam for my UM1 and causally remarked that I'll be upgrading soon. He pass me a s.fi5 pro and I almost went crazy... I'll skip the details, but those were incredible... I couldn't listen to my UM1 now anymore So I'll be looking at IEM in the price range of $300 - $400. One with a dual driver. My current gear: - iriver E10 with all 320kbps lame encodered music - Weston UM1 Stuff I listen to (in this order): - Jazz (both smooth jazz & jazz vocals) - New Age - Classical (mainly guitars) - 70s rock - mainstream So here's what I feel bout my UM1: Likes: - warm - comfort of fit (comply) - musical, can be too laid back at times, I'll fall asleep, but not in a bad way) - excellent mid vocal reponse Dislike: - muddy bass - poor soundstaging - high roll off? (not really, i'm high freq sensitive) Here's wat i'll like : - tight deep bass but not overwhelming. - better separations and sound staging. - more detail but not overly analytical. - as warm as the UM1 Thanks for helping. Hope someone can help me out. Sorry bout this being a selfish "help me out" thread.
  4. Hi everyone, Got my iriver E10 at Comex . Never knew it was so difficult to audition MP3 player cos each has different pieces of music and encoded at different rate. Went all over the place wif my UM1(got from aron)... Tried all the creative, the Sandisk sansa & samsungs. Off the shelf Creative players sounded best, i reckon it may be due to the special tracks in the players encoded specially by creative. Worst sounding was the E10. Sounded really muddy, extremly bad sound staging and detail etc... Bad sales person too (they didn't know how to operate their own product ). In the end I bought the E10 out of faith in iriver product (tired of ipods and creatives). Still trying to figure it out, but so far I'm more then glad i bought it . I usually listen to my players with all EQ off but i notice it has SRS WOW, so i gave it a try... I was shock how much the sound opened up... Here's some info i came across at SRSLabs Heres my questions about the SRS thingy, hope some audio purist could help out. 1. According to the web site above, its suppose to help recreate the "actual sound" of the piece of music lost due to short coming of recording equipment, encoding, players and phones. Really like to hear some opinion. 2. If anyone is using a player that has SRS i'll like to know what kind of setting he/she uses and on which phones (i'm still trying all kinds of combo with my UM1). Because i don't have any reference materals right now so hoping to get help here. My setting when sounding good with perticular genre of music will sound bad on the other. Hope to find a nice balance setting. Overall its so far so good for my E10, nice interface except for software u need to sync the music in, but wait, it does it at such insane speed i don't really mind anymore. oh yah, hello everyone. Have been reading the forum for quite a while now but never posted. Sorry for the extremly long post. Cheers
