  1. how n where ya to do the decoupling?

Just look up LT1085/1086 datasheet. I had tried other caps, MKPs, electrolytics caps but found tantalum to have the most positive impact. Note that you may want to purchase tantalum caps with at least twice the voltage rating as what it is subjected to and take extra care with the polarity.

  2. Note: LM7812 is replaced by LT317; Silver + MOGAMI NEGLEX OFC internal wiring; RCA phono jack out as preamp ;)

I had very positive results using LT1085/1086-12V regulators with tantulum decoupling caps compared to LM7812 and 317. You might want to try out.

  3. Have you tried Bluetin? They have this model listed in their Japan store.

    hi kyaw,

Thanks for the suggestion! I have thought of getting from Minhwa but I thought his price for the SA5000 are not competitive enough, hence my hesistance.

  4. Did you try Stereo? I remember it not available locally. I might be able to get for you if I'm dropping by Tokyo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have contacted Stereo and they do not carry this model. I will keep your offer of help in mind, in case I cannot find a local source.

  5. Hi guys,

Anybody know where can I find Yuin earphones or other Hifi gears in Haikou, China?

    Thanks.

Might not be easy to find but you can try to search thru www.baidu.com, www.alibaba.com.cn or www.taobao.com. I usually find the shops through there.

  6. Wow, seem like many have already quit headfi. I left the headphone scene more than a year ago for various reasons.

    1. I thought I have spent an excessive sum of $ on headphone stuff that cannot justify the costs.

    2. It is a selfish hobby where only one gets to enjoy it at any one time.

    3. I spend more time tweaking/changing stuff than listening to music.

    4. The flavour of the month frenzy that sings praise of one component, only to be condemned in 30 days' time.

Moved to photography and never looked back. I'm still into audio DIY though, but only to fulfill my wish of DIYing an entire system, just for the joy of it. The material costs aren't high either, as long as you know where to find them.

The only headfi gear I left with is an ipod nano -> iBasso D2 Viper -> UM2.

  7. No one ..........????

Ok, I start the ball rolling then. Here's what I have done.

    IPB Image

Changed the silmic caps to Blackgates and Cerafine, I prefer the sound of Cerafine as it is brings in a sense of liveliness. Silmic to me has always been slightly warm sounding.

Changed the .1uF decoupling cap across the supply pin to 1uF BG non-polar and MKP 1837 .1uF polypropylene cap. Found this to be the best compromise.

Last but not least changing the default NE5532 (think this is used as buffer) to LM4562/LME49720. I had thought that the low output current for the LM4562/LME49720 might have some problems for me but it didn't, maybe becos I was using it to drive my UM2.

One thing to note. With this configuration, I find that LM4562/LME49720 does not response well to .1uF decoupling cap across the supply pins. Sounded too aggressive.

Please feel free to share your findings.

  8. Probably chip in a bit with something slightly off topic.

If you are using OPA627, look for Carlosfm's tip on how to decouple the 627s. You can find that at diyhifi.org. I recall having a small decoupling MKP cap between V+ and V- and then decoupling between V+ & Gnd and V- & Gnd. The important thing to note is to keep the wire leads of the caps as close to the 627 pins as possible.

I hear significant differences doing so for the OPA627.

  9. N Oak: thanx!!

    u r right :D ..

more into snapping nowadays, but I still keep a humble portable setup for music listening on the go. Would v much love to go back to the endless pit of headphone listening if fund permits in the future

ah.. mr Tee.. I've lost touch with him since some 2-3 yrs ago :( ...

no idea where is he now(he isn't here anymore is he?)
