  1. The TS Lim mod is for the Marantz CD63 cdp. It makes the cdp very good. Listened to it before, its good but didn't do a comparison to the 640v2.

RCA Cables are interconnects from rca jacks to other set of rca jacks. They are 2 heads to 2 heads (red to ted, white to white) .Google it to see.

    5001 is ard 280-300. Cambridge audio 640c V2 ard 700. 540cv2 ard 600? Also got the NAD ard 500.

  2. Crossroads is the brand and Mylarone X3 is the model name. It retails ard 65. Its true that this brand is relatively unheard of but do go and listen first before making a choice. Only your ears can tell you if its good, not some brand.

Adelphi is the building opposite funan. Jaben is on the 4th floor and located in the row behind the staircase.

  3. Hi, the hornet is $630 from jaben. The tomahawk is 500. The AE-2 is also 500+. Do go and audition the AE-2, its similar to the hornet.

The Beyer A1 is darn good and has very good synergy with the DT990. It automatically adjusts to the headphones' impedence. All I can say, is that the A1 is damn bloody good but darn ex too

  4. The Imod is an option avaliable to those who have a 4G Gen Ipod and want to mod it. The cost with shipping is ard 320sgd. There have been many debates over at headfi when imod first made it debut. Till now, its quite a clear cut case that the imod is better than most players. However the kenwood player is still new in the market whereas the imod has been tried tested to be a sucess.

Don't forget, you cannot just compare the imod to the kenwood as the imod would require an external amp to run. People who get the imod do have excellent portable amps. Thus its the combination, for eg, Hornet and Imod that makes it so darn good when compared to the hornet - entry level cdp.

An imod paired to a little dot micro aint going to sound good and thus cant compare to the kenwood. I still hold my stand that a hornet-imod combination will easily be better than the kenwood.

  5. Side track a little, just need your opinion on the IEM. If you have an iMod, will it really justify the upgrade from SF5p to TF10?

Now back to the topic ... :b2t

I compared my 5g ipod stock with my cdp. There is a big difference between the tf10 and sf5. However, on the ipod+hornet, the difference isnt that great. So the question is how much for how little?

I personally took the imod path first then the iem path. Sources are usually the bottleneck in setups. Shipping mine over to vinnie in a day or 2.

  6. I guess for those who are interested in the Imods, they would have mid-high end amps and similar IEMs/Headphones and are thinking of upgrading their source to a better one.

For those who are interested, looks are secondary to the sound quality of the Imod.

Personally, I am looking at the option of getting an Imod. My reason is that I would like to have a portable source which can compete or better entry level cd players. Futhermore, upgrading to better IEMs (SF5 to TF10, for eg) is not really justifiable due to the difference between them is not that great.

I have tried both with my cdp and ipod. The cdp allows the tf10 to perform fully and thus is very much better than the sf5 ( Tigher Bass, Improved Detailness, Soundstage)

Thus it really depends on individuals.

I did some maths for the 4G Imod and its $645 for the 30GB while $725 for the 60GB. Both Ipods are refurbished from apple sg.

  7. I too am looking at the imod. I feel there is a greater difference between a ipod and an imodded ipod as compared to the difference between a SF5 - TF10. I am still considering this difference.

Imods are one of the best portables out there. However for the 4G imod, you will need an external amp to run it and that amp has to be of reasonable quality to fully maximise the potential of the imod.

Stock vs Stock. I feel that creative zen vision M is better than the 5g ipod.

  8. I agree with Fire_jk18. I personally have the 640C v2 and it sounds darn good. I suggest you audition all the models you are interested in. Different Brands have different sound signatures.

And dun forget, 640c v2 is using 2 x Wolfson WM8740 24-bit/192kHz DACs in dual differential configuration for improved stereo performance. This takes the cake home.

  9. Well, for a budget of 2k. I recommend you get a non-portable setup. A good cdp paired with a nice amp and good heaphones. All these can be found at the adelphi although they are in different shops.

If I may, here is what I would get.

    Cambridge Audio 640c v2 - Firestone Amp - Senn 650, Akg 701?

However, if portable is what you want, aaron has said it.
