  1. Hi. May I ask what's the black thing that I keep seeing on your CDP's tray? Does it help 'improve' the sound?
  2. most headphones mellows down after some time. so not to worry Do keep us updated as your headphones get 'burn-in'. If you're impatient, just leave your headphones on for hours in a drawer.. Heh.. just don't blast them
  3. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f7/oppo-970-...-cd5001-291593/ Actually, I am thinking of getting a CD player for a second set-up. Did a little research and the Marantz's supposed to be one of the best CD player ever (for the price)! The CD6002's supposed to be quite a player as well... hwever it's not available in the US but reviews of the set's been very positive. Also, I doubt the effect of the upscaling on your TV will have any marked difference. Supposed to work better with HUGE TVs
  4. Yup... open headphones.. but definitely worth the money if you listen to it at home, in your own cosy corner No matter what, DO NOT go for the sennheiser PX200. I thought it's a Senn but the SQ was disappointing.
  5. Wow. Rameish - I am impressed! Tis experience talking here eh?
  6. Ermmm... try googling them? They are all very reputable brands There's a whole lot more actually. Head-fi's has got an extensive database of recommendations. Can't really commend on which is my fav because they all have their strengths and depends on the headphones and source used. But like what most ppl will advise, drop by Stereo or Jaben and try them out!
  7. Just off my mind... The more popular ones are the Rudistors, iBasso, Ray Samuels, Meier and the assortment of smaller amps from Jaben.
  8. that's a lot of tubes there... Where did you get that picture from?
  9. Well... from what I recall about the MFA3, it's a pretty neutral CD player (as in not very forward in its presentation, correct me if I'm wrong ) Are you looking for an 'exciting' sound or a more lush sound? A lot of people seem to favour tubes which will generally give a more laid back sound.
  10. Hmmm.. since you've been down to Jaben's before why don't you head down there again to try out the Beyers or perhaps even the HD595? both are reasonably 'lush' sounding
  11. You'll need to give us more info so that we can recommend. e.g. type of music/portable or desktop. Localy, check out Stereo@Woodlands or Jaben Network@Adelphi... you'll be spolit for choice. For reviews, you might be interested in reading through some of the older threads. head-fi.org is US-based and very active. Not sure if $300 is your absolute max, but getting a REALLY good amp will save you loads of money in the long run
  12. Well one thing you should take into consideration of is when and where you them. The ATs are open-headphones. You can hear noise around you and everyone can definitely hear what you're listening to... Personally, I think the Alessandro MS-1's one of the best-value headphones ever. Try it out!
  13. Thanks for you sharing. Great set-up! I am curious how a balanced set-up compare with a electrostats set-up. Perhaps you have some insight to share?
  14. Woah... you've got a really interesting set-up there... serious gamer eh? Hehe...
  15. Ermmm... since you have the Bayers, perhaps you should consider other brands to experience their sound signature... Honestly, given the plethora of headphones that have been listed, why don't you just drop by either Stereo/Jaben/Farle and give them a go?
  16. Woah... obviously you're a darth fan. May I ask what you are using to drive them?
  17. Wow. I cannot believe that I actually missed this thread! yotiao, thanks again for having us over. It was definitely an 'ear-opening' experience. Thanks also to osocan for presenting such a detailed impression. I must agree that the w5000 sounded really smooth and somewhat upfront as well, though not like the RS-1 I was deciding hard as to which to get and finally decided on the RS-1 since I've got the K701 to fall back on.... perhaps one day I'll succumb. Hehe Somewhat off topic, but I'd like to share my experience with 3 sources (Naim CD5i, CD5x and the CA840c) + MAD HD amp + RS-1/K701. Naim CD5i - very punchy and solid. Great separation and details. Naim CD5x - even more punchy, so much so that I couldn't stand listening to rock through the RS-1. Better separation, details and spatial imaging. However, when I changed over to the K701 I was quite blown away and the K701 actually rocked! If I hadnt bought the RS-1, I'd be quite satisfied sticking to just the K701 Alas, the CD5x is used for my speaker set-up and I decided to give the CA840c a go. Pretty good player (not sure if the upsampling really works though) It's substantially more neutral sounding than the Naim and less crisp sounding. That also means that I'll be less distracted while working
