  1. i tried to upload it, but looks like there's sum problem, i couldn't upload the pic. my browser just idled for 30min+ with no pic uploaded. It looks like it's gonna b done when i get d op-amp. i just had a couple of school and church camps for the past weeks, so I couldn't go to get the op-amps. going to get it within this week Btw, yea, i agree that d people here r very helpful
  2. YAY! so my prob would b finished when i get OPAs? haha Ok then, im paying federal a visit next week. just in time after i finish my exams. haha. how long does it take to order? i dun have cerdit card so i cannot directly order from farnell. does federal charge any xtra? Which OPA would u recommend ? i read from many about 2134s, 2132s and 2227s. I would really like to have one which won't give much prob( as in less likely to give problems like osclitatting bla2.) hehe. Haha. looks like the farnell counter is nearer to my house than SLT is. lol. btw, is the student 10% disc available there?
  3. hmm... i already changed the gain to 5... but still no luck.... i read this article at tangent: http://tangentsoft.net/audio/hs-opamp.html after reading it... i suspect the problem of it all is all about my op-amp( 5532D) which is a bipolar amp. i also read a few days ago on one forum(forgot to take down the URL) that since 5532D is a bipolar amp, it might not work well as there might b DC offset or sumthing like that. Pretty much matches with my problem.... May I have some confirmation on this? or should i go lower with my gain values? or shld i go to get OPA op-amps through federal? Just got a pcdp with optical line-out. can't wait to hear how my DIYed amp would work(once it work properly of course, w/o the distortion) ......
  4. hey thx a lot guys. just visited the mustafa and sim lim just now. found a panasonic SL-CT720 n i bought it at 150sgd at simlim square. dang it took the whole day just to find this PCDP. luckily i found one store selling it. the last one... I just tried it out and it sound wonderful. i'm not sure wheter its the CD quality or the discman itself, but the sound is clearly more clear and a bigger bass compared to my nano. Haven't got to try its line out... i will have to wait till i get my cmoy done up. Anyway, im quite surprised that there's an external battery pack(2 AAs). and a charger. i thought it would b powered by 2 AAs but looks like it's using those gum batteries internally. lol. I like it, quite a big plus for me. Anyway, since im getting my 20gig ipod repaired, which bitrate should i use to have a good sound like pcdp? my headphone is a px100, would 256 kbps be enough? would an average phone like px100 can reproduce the sound of a higher bitrate with a difference?
  5. hm.. im not really looking into a slim profile or any gimmicks. i just want a decent player that i can bring around ( not for home use ). Anyway, im currently making a cmoy amp. it's almost done, just trying to get rid of the distortion the amp is giving me. probably i would like a pcdp that have line out. I dun mind spening a 'lil more than 100, to get a decent portable cd player that have line out. I saw one yest in tampines century square jade gift shop.(best and courts dun sell pcdp anymore lol) there's a pcdp that has a line out, but it costs above 200... from the link loop gave me, the ct720 sounds like a good one(but that's as far as i go... i dun wanna spend anything more than 150..) but i think it would b hard to get it in singapore now? I'm open for other less expensive but decent models though... as long as i know where to get 'em.
  6. haha. icic. well, i dun have any pcdp so i cannot listen to my music directly from cds while moving around. my ipod nano has small capacity(only 2gig). if i save in high bitrate, most likely i can only keep 150+ songs? Now my ipod is filled full with 280 songs of 96-128 kbps songs. Mayb i would also like to do it like radioactive28. have a cd player as backup. lol. anyway, they'r getting rare now, mayb getting one wouldn't hurt. Anyway, i have a 20gig ipod+hp which i bought in america. It's hard drive got spoiled and it's out of warranty. THe apple here doesn't want to replace it cuz there's +hp and can only b repaired in america(which section in HP had closed down too i think). I just read that there's a way to fix it's hard drive by diy. i think im going to repair it(bigger space, so can use higher bitrate). Anyway, just for nostalgic thing... (you got me there redioactive) which cd player should i buy? i dun think i want to invest so much, since most of you said that an mp3 file at high bitrate won't have much diff anyway. Since, PCDP are getting quite rare... i certainly hope some1 could tell me places to buy them n which model I can only think of simlim and price range around 50-100SGD...
  7. Hello guys, just wondering if it's still worth it to buy a portable cd player nowadays... Never had one, my first audio stuff was an ipod and i never got to hear a portable cd player b4.lol. I heard that CDs would sound better than an mp3 file, so i thought that it would b worth it to get one? If there really would b a quality difference, i am definitely interested in getting one. Anyone have any suggestions on which player to buy? i heard sonys are good. But i hardly could find any Portable Cd player in shops like best or courts in singapore. Mayb they'r way too outdated.. Im thinking of buying something else to play my music. I have an ipod nano. I don't mind having to have a bigger player like a cd portable as i usually go around with a bag. or maybe another mp3 player would b more recommendable? or should i just stick with my ipod as it's as good as it gets? Anyways, im now more inclined towards getting a portable cd, cuz i never heard my cds from a cd player b4, except my laptop. I would usually just import and transfer to ipods. haha. Does anyone with more experience can advice me on this? I hope I can get a good recommendations, with price and place to get it too Thx a lot.
  8. er... strange... i can't seem to upload the pic... i've been waiting for 1/2 hour but nothing is uploaded... hrm.... o well. Anyway, after reading some posts at headwize, i think that it's possible to tune the gain to correct this distortion. RIght now, im using the default gain of 11. I read in one of the posts that I should reduce it to somewhre around gain 5... I'll try to do some math here... until then, im still hoping somebody would come up with other suggestions. Thx in advance.
  9. no luck... the sound still distorts badly.... hmm. i'll get a pic of it... will post in 15min..
  10. i already did some touch up on the soldering. the hissing is already gone The only problem left is the distortion. What's the symptom of clipping? Cuz currently nothing is overheating. Anyway, im going to add the extra power soon... but just to be sure... it's should b connected in series rite?
  11. wow. thx a lot actually the hiss is not much of a problem, it's very very soft. I just noticed it cause it was very quiet when i tested it and no songs were playing. lol. once the song play, it's not audible anymore. I'll try to fix my soldering, hope it will help my distortion prob... or would adding an additional 9v battery help? Which would b the cheaper option for the flux remover? how much are they?
  12. Ok, done up the cmoy up to the amp section and tested them with croc clips. the chips didn't blew, and sound managed to get through the amp...... however.... 1. there's a quiet hiss whenever it's on( i think i can fix this by using the R5) 2. there's ugly distortion when i turn up the volume. I'm not sure how to fix this distortion.. any advices on this? My current amp is using JRC5532D. The voltage between V+ n V- are equal. I tested with my px100, sportapro n one cheap headphone. Distortions happens in all headphones.... but not when i play it low volume.i use a single 9v battery Anyway, may i know what's this flux thing? is it thing that would stick to my board n is a bit shiny2? Do i have to get rid of it n if yes, how? One last question, would a cheap op-amp like 5532D cause significant changes to the quality of sound? Cause i dun hear much difference when i play it through the amp(at low volume though). Would really b interested to know...
  13. hmm. icic. ok. Thank you very much
  14. ok.. i failed to do it again. yet finally i understand what's wrong... my soldering is not right. The parts are not connected properly. hahaha. Just realised this after watching the videos on how to solder, on tangent. Ok, so i think i might have damaged a few parts of the cmoy( i have redone the thing twice , so most likely a part or two will be damaged right?) Anyway, i am looking to get new parts. i hope it won't cost much again though. I'm thinking of going to SLT cuz der's a direct bus from my house. rather than going all the way to koba( Im at the other side of Singapore).Any suggestions of which shop to go to and may i know the business hours? I heard they'r closed on weekends. I'm buying the whole parts all over again, except for the board.(switches, resistors, caps, film caps, op-amps, sockets, stereo jacks etc.) How much should it cost me? I didn't take note of how much i spent on the parts the last time. Thx for the help.
  15. haha. I'll post a pic of it soon... thx Anyway, i already got my fuse. However, b4 i blow up another fuse...which one should i use to measure Voltage: i have DCV, ACV, DCA, C(uF). sorry for the "for dummies only" question..... I'm thinking of building a new one all over again , since i just got a new board, which have pattern, pretty similar to the one on tangentsoft. Unless i can easily fix this prob, i would most likely b restarting. the wires underneath are too messy to deal with. lol. Must learn to be neater next time...
