  1. I think this one you can ask around here. Maybe some of the resident Gurus can give you a better answer.

If you ask me I'd get the UM1s and stick with it until I have enough $$ for UM2 or even the new UM3 coming out.

    good line of thinking.

for me, slight diff, i'd get the Mylar1 or 3, stick with it until i've saved up for UM2 or even the upcoming Westone 3 (not UM3 which is commonly mistaken for).

  2. Hi sghound,

What is your opinion if a comparison is made between iAudio Cowon DAPs (D2, X5), Meizu DAPs (M6, M3), and the latest Samsung K3 in terms of sound quality with/without using their sound enhancements?

    What about their sound signatures?

Thanks for the advice, i might be buying a new DAP soon. :cans:

generally, i like the Cowon & Samsung SQ over the Meizu. in terms of which Cowon model or K3, it really boils down to your personal preferences. if you want a quality MP3 music maker which is ultra-portable, then the K3 is hard to beat. if you wanna play higher quality/size formats like FLAC, then u gotta go the way of something like X5, but together with that comes a larger package with greater fragility (HDD). so weigh your priorities b4 making the decision.

for myself, a protable rig has to be ultra-portable with minimum compromises. i chose Flash players coz their smaller, and more durable than HDD (better try not to drop). i can live with MP3 at 320kbps played back on a 8GB flash player, thru a quality portable amp and quality IEM. on my current 2GB K3, i store the bitrate at 128kbps, tats why i'm eyeing the 8GB variant so that i can pump up the quality to 320.

  3. Hi Sghound,

If I don't need video, is this the best SQ available for portable device? How does it compare to their smaller M3 in SQ? http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/iaudio/m3/

BTW I'm using WMA lossless files. Anyway, are there reviews on these devices? Searched but only found reviews on mainstream non-audiophile medias like zdnet etc

yeah the HDD is big enuf for lossless. but i'm not sure if it can support WMA lossless. FLAC is supported though, and is arguably the best sounding & most widely supported lossless format currently.

  4. aei...correct me if I am wrong...i thought ipod all these ordinary mp3 players already support lossless formats, such as FLAC??

the ipod can play flac if u replace the entire firmware with rockbox. on its own it can support lossless AAC not the superior FLAC.

another killa FLAC product, many consider the X5 to be the king of portable players for sound quality. Cowon seems to be way ahead of the game.

  5. Do you mind canalphones which go into the ear canal? If you don't mind it, the Crossroad mylarOnes is a good deal, at about $50. There has been some QC problems lately, but faulty units can be easily replaced when bought at Jaben at Adelphi, which is opposite Funan Centre.

Another choice is the EP630, which is slightly cheaper.

I personally prefer the mylarOnes, but you could always try them before buying.

i second that. Mylarones are unbeatable for that price range. $45 nia at Jaben.

  6. looks like the OVC T25. a copy of the Vibes.

    Guys,

these are the phones i have been talking about, i found when i was in Hong Kong. They are sold in hermetically ( airtight heat seal ) packets, i asked the shop where they are made in, and was told they are from taiwan. These dun have the braided cords that vibes have but instead they have rubbery-like cords that do not coil up into a mess easily. And so far these are the only colour that they have, which is black and gold, which is not seen in the Vibes collection. They do not have spare ear buds as well. However they have gold plated jacks and also the same tiny ported hole under each ear phone as the Vibes. The initial few hours sounds didnt impress me much, but after running them in for more than 20hrs, the sounds became clearer and bass was tight.

After searching the Vibes for so long, i think i finally hit jackpot. :lust: But i just wan to be sure how good these are when compared to the real Vibes. I got a feeling these phones are made from the same factory as Vibes. And due to prevent infringement, they make it different in colour and with different cord materials.

I cant remember the exact price in HK dollars but i think it abt S$50 to S$60, which i remembered was abt half the price for the Vibes they are selling in SG bc i remembered the selling price clearly before i left for HK so that i can try to find them while i was there.

  7. Hi,

I hv a Grado SR-60 in which i hv used for the past two years. recently, the right side of the phones has no sound intermittently or the cable is of a certain position... has anyone got tis problem before and how to solve it ? will Grado replace the cable for u and how much it cost ? thanx a million..

kena the same problem twice liao. damm sick of the poor grado QC. nice sounding drivers for the price though. but the comfort and QC very much undesired. pity.

  8. Do they allow testing or trying of the vibes over there at DC lifestyle ? I am not so crazy abt spending $100 over for a pair of phones that i cant try to see how good they really are.

To all bros who own vibes, i have found a pair of phones that might interest you guys. So far after running them in for more than 25 hrs ( currently more than 50 hrs ), i found them really good. I have tried all kind of sounds on them, jazz, techno, hiphop, vocals.. and they still sound better than any phones i have tried before. But i still like to know how well they fare against the Vibes. This pair cost slightly more than half the amount of Vibes is selling for, and as for how they look like... i just like to say... you guys might be shocked!

I am looking for someone who owns a pair of vibes to try them ( my pair ) or if possible let me have a listen to a pair of your Vibes.

If anyone is interested in them i will get them for you. If there is a group buy i think i get a better price.

Specs wise : Same as Vibes !

no trial pair. but headfi got very good reviews, and they're quite accurate most of the time.

pray tell, what phones u got? brand? pix?

  9. bro, you can find some in vivo city, there's this shop called DC lifestyle if i'm not mistaken, selling flashback chrome colour vibes for SGD115. Otherwise, if you want the gunmetal black, you can get it in apple in wheelock for SGD190. IMO, the chrome looks better and for the price difference, it's not worthy to get the black one. nevertheless, choices are yours. Have a great day ^^.

checked out DG Lifestyle yesterday but the $115 offer was only for their opening sale. they now tag it at $169 which is still the lowest in town.
