I don't think they're really monitors.. more like stereophile earphones? I'm not very sure.. monitoring purposes would want as flat a response as possible right..
Got this of wiki
"One of the key benefits is the fact that the performer's ears can be protected from high Sound pressure Levels that exist on a concert stage. Of course, if they turn up the volume of their monitors too much, this benefit is defeated. The other benefit of the noise reduction offered by the monitors is that the performers only hear what is added to their mix, providing a higher level of clarity."

you can do alot with 300...
you can try yuins at jaben, westone UM1s are popular too.. below 200.
u could also try shure
-
so in that sense it would take away the quality too right? like 320kbps vs vbr...
for the slight improvement on sound for the size...
-
fubar is another brand of amps and Dac but i think not at stereo...
I dun suppose that its a portable?
-
did not try the D2 and wat is fubar?
-
of course the issue would then be the easy "losability" of those many small parts.. esp on the go..
Read about it already, but i dun think they will produce the kind of sound like the shure, westone or ue

anyone knows the Tel of the store 'Monsoon at Odean near Bras Basar' or the other shop at the basement of Parklane Shopping Mall as above quote? i would like to ask if they stock the Ultrasone DJ1 or the HFI580 or 780 too? i would like to audition them if possible, thx
Let me know if u manage to try it first b4 me... have not got the time to call Jaben to ask about the 780

You don't need a pair of closed cans for home use (or maybe you do if your home environment is noisy).
A very good all-rounder is the the AKG K701 or a Grado RS-1/RS-2 (you really should use these high end headphones with an amp). Upgrade your source something that encodes in lossless format. On an iPod (Apple Lossless) thru a line out to a matching amp to headphones should be the way to go.
I am currently using the cowon D2 with flac files and a toma (planning to change to the pico). I have tried the K701 but find that it sounds a bit empty (maybe bcos I am used to IEMs). The sound is very distant.

Ya you can buy 4GB which cost about $300 and use SD card for extension of memory.
But after reading alot of material on D2, it seems that D2 firmware are not stable.
Visit this Cowon forum for more info: http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=53
i m using the d2 with firmware2.53. dun have any hangs or funny issues. but i only us for music n nothing else. the batt life is fantastic, can get over 40hrs from one charge.

VBR will just change the bit rate according to the sound of the music... it will help to reduce the size of the mp3.

the cowon D2

I've read abit about sleek audio.. apparently pretty good and it's cool too. You can actually "EQ" the monitor itself by replacing some filters in the phones itself.
Sounds interesting, i will check it out.

Unfortunately there isn't not much of a choice for an amp to perform like that.... Size, weight & price you'll all forget.
Hard to forget the size if u are carrying in your hand. it feels like I am carrying a PDA

Thanks. waiting for Jaben to get stocks for the ultrasone

wat is the vol u use on the i-qube when listening to the 780s? wat is ur source, dat would also play apart in the sound
-
It is very surprising that you couldn't tell the diff from all the listed headphones ans earphones.... As in u couldn't tell the diff from them or you don't like the sound characteristics?
then u should wif something basic. u dun need something ex since u cannot tell the diff in sound. but u need to let us know if u lookin at cans or iem. which do u feel comfortable wif

No choice also ... take so long to come out. I've been using UM2 for ever liao, waiting and waiting for the Westone 3 'cos nothing else I want to upgrade to. At least those of you who started off with UM1 can still go for UM2 now
or you could try cans... they have a total different kind of sound compare to IEMs
-
Are you looking for IEMs or Cans?
With high bass?
If Cans, open or close?
-
nothing new except I tried the i-qube as well... sounds gd but the weight and size turn me off...
-
you could try the triplefi too by ultimate ears.. although I've no idea how much those cost =)
Haha.. here in a westone 3 tread and we are recommending other brands
-
I listen to classical music too, mostly piano, with some vocal and pop/rock as well.
UM2 is a good choice? Any other recommendation?
I had such high hopes for UM3, with its triple driver. Sigh ....
you could always try the shure the se420 is a double driver or the se530 which is also a triple driver

does the source make a diff with the amp? tried the 701 with my toma... had to turn the volume to max before it was loud enuf to hear. Wonder if it will be the same for this set of cans
-
Tried some headphones at Stereo today. Sadly not of them caught my attention. And open cans are not for me, I could hear my surroundings, total not enjoyable
-
Let me know once how it sounds after your burn-in of the i-qube
newbie that need some suggestion.
