Hi,

I have this problem where the right channel does not seem to connect properly to my headphone amplifier.

The jack I am using is a 1/4" gold plated Neutrik locking jack.

I have previously opened the jack to try to disable the locking mechanism (while building the amp) and I am thinking that might have screwed the jack up. Thus, causing this bad connection.

I have tried various 1/4' plugs, bending the spring in the jack, using electrical contact spray, but all their effects does not last and problem crops up again, and its always the right channel.

Can someone tell me if there is a problem with my amp?

Or is it just a bad jack? I am really going nuts at the amp.

p.s. to all looking to build an amplifier - save the trouble and NOT get the Neutrik locking jack, you do not want your amplifier flying either way

Im selling a pair of Denon C751 in black colour; I have too many pairs of IEM/in-ears.

It is around 1 year old. There are no scratches on the metal though the brand is slightly rubbed off through normal usage.

Yeah, it seems like HD555 is ideal but again, most people prefer AD700 than HD555. Everyone with a AD700?

I tried the MS-1 as well as the cheaper Grados before, I found them too engaging (forward) and somewhat just not my cup of tea.

Thus I sold my Grado SR-80 in the end.

I am looking to get a open headphone that has a smooth and more laid back characteristic.

Something that is suitable to be used amped and not, cos I am just too lazy to fiddle will my comp>dac>amp>headphone most of the time.

I have a mini^3 portable amp though, which I seldom use too

So far I have found Sennheiser HD555 and Audio-Technica AD700.

HD555 seems to fit the bill well but I have not found much in detail about the AD700.

I guess my main concern here is its sound signature than high-end fidelity, details etc.

I will probably use the phones with all kind of stuff, movies/music/general stuff.

Has anyone here had experience with such/similar phones?

I'm guessing the iTransport has AAC, MP3, ALAC to PCM decoders built-in in addition to its ability to read/interpret the iPod file structure.

Yep. Even my xbox360 can do that with just a ~60Kb patch

It displays music files like how iPod does it, by Artist, Albums, etc etc.

Making the iTransport support multiple codecs should be pretty easy too.

Its alright, I have a canare starquad for sale though terminated with Neutrik quarter inch on one end and a mini neutrik 3.5mm on the other end. Not sure if you will be interested.

On second thought, are the cables in Canare Star Quad good enough?

The original cables by Denon are OFC. They don't state the purity but from what others on Head-fi talk about, they are probably around 99.XX%..

Is it worthed recabling to the Canares?

Doesn't seem interesting at all.

I speculate what iTransport is basically a "mini-computer" that reads the music file(data) off the HDD of the iPod then plays it with its own DAC and blah blah blah, instead of the iPod playing the music file.

Might as well invest in a better DAC?

Less you want that thing sitting in your living room. There is the Squeezebox for that...

Just a question about the cable. Since the cable has quad cores, after a Y joint, the cable are not shielded anymore, I reckon thats alright?

Try the two usual sources for cables, ie. LHS in Sim Lim Tower and Koba in People's Park Complex.

Any particular cables to recommend?

I bought a couple of cables from there before, some Silver plated Copper and they only cost $1.50/m. That I suppose it pretty cheap compared to those on Head-fi. But not too sure about its purity.

I don't think it's true that others will have the same experience we have. If you read the support thread for the mini3, you will know there are some people who have trouble with it. So getting some prior experience learning to use the soldering iron and DMM before tackling an expensive project is a good thing

Well, it varies with different people I suppose. Using the soldering iron and MM/DMM is really simple and straight forward for thru-hole soldering. It will definately require some patience for first timers. Surface Mounts will be tricky but is not that hard.

It is the troubleshooting which will really give you headaches

Since to built amp, of course look for better quality. CMOY or Mini is better ?

If you're confident with your skills, I would suggest you go for something better than CMOY.

Mini3 is my first DIY amp and I have not even touched a soldering iron before this and it worked out fine for me.

Watching videos works too, this web has pretty good videos on soldering and stuff
