Bad news for me, i think i fried my opamps.
Sorry to hear that, the same happened to me
Careful with the pads anyway, I pull one of mine off
Btw, for those who would like to know, I shorted the right channel of my U5 op-amp = 4V DC offset.
-
Anyone?
-
That would be the best, but I just stuff my maha battery in my headphone amplifier and charge it from there. That should be able to last till the new batteries are out on the market. If you read, they last around 3years, yeah 3 years of usage without charging, you just throw them after that
-
Thats why Singapore government is importing all the china men to increase the population. Not exactly for the market but lots of other *reasons*.
Sorry china dudes, but you guys are like everywhere in Singapore nowadays..

Hey,
I am looking for a pair of portable/small speakers that can be powered by a DAP itself.
I have a Mini3 headphone amp which will also be powering the speakers. Active speakers that can be powered by external sources w/o the battery would be even better. My budget is <$50.
I used to have a <$5 one which perform surprising good - no distortions at higher volumes.
Cheapo ones will do for me, but I am willing to fork out more (within my budget) for a good and reasonably priced pair. I will not really be bringing them around, so one around the size of a Al can will be fine, a pair = 2cans.
Anyone know of one to recommend? Thanks!

The thing is, you have no idea if its stated capacity is true. With a reputated brand, you can trust what it states.
From my experience, DONT BUY THE NON-REPUTATED BRANDS.
Looking forward to hear about other's experiences too.
-
I believe the memory effect talked about means when u recharge the battery before it is depleted to .6/.9 volts.
Exactly! But the standard meaning of memory effect means permanently reducing the capacity.
Imho, do not go for unbranded rechargeable. Different brands/models have different characteristic but i have seen exploded battery when they are not charged properly.Yea, even buying Product of Singapore batteries are very likely to be lousy. I just got one not long ago and it sucks.
-
Ah, that got me clear, thanks.
Oh wells, you still cant use it like Li-ion batteries though.
How about "lousy" branded rechargeable batteries? Anyone?

This is kinda a old thread but I'm thinking this is a VERY useful thread. Being relative new to this audiophile world, I really do agree with you, ablaze.
So much so of what many say about differences amplifier makes to the sound are quite small, (to me, its very small).
This thread should be made a sticky
-
Are you 100% sure?
Quoted from Wikipedia:
"A NiMH battery can have two to three times the capacity of an equivalent size NiCd and the memory effect is not as significant"
and
"Voltage Depression ("Memory Effect") from repeated partial discharge can occur, but is reversible through charge cycling."
???
There are also many people saying it does not suffer from memory effects.
Pretty confusing..
-
Hey,
I just bought a PowerPack "Product of Singapore" 9V 210mAh NiMH rechargeable battery.
I always believed the brands matters, but anyway, I still got it.
The performance seem to be quite poor for a 210mAh battery.
Have anyone had experiences with not-so-reputated brands for them??
There is another thing, do NiMH batteries suffer from memory effects?
-
Too bad it does not look like a shop...(its the truth I am speaking)
Sorry for those who love Jaben..
-
More of placebo effect I would say. Hehe.
It is quite a joke, the way Dave Clark reviewed it. Ridiculous!
Sure makes me wonder how much of the reviews out there are actually true..

Disclaimer: Not for the sensitive
I am new to this audiophile world, so you can call me a "audiophile newbie" but I am fine with that and prefer to stay that way.
Lets take a look at this very interesting article from gizimodo.com:
James Randi Offers $1 million If Audiophiles Can Prove $7250 Speaker Cables Are Better
Pointing out the absurd review by audiophile Dave Clark, who called the cables "danceable," Randi called it "hilarious and preposterous." He added that if the cables could do what their makers claimed, "they would be paranormal."I think Randi made a point there...I could not help but to laugh. So far, there are no takers..
Well, just want to show you guys this, probably better if my own opinions are left out
The original article from gizmodo is here
You can also look for the original review by audiophile Dave Clark, which I did not bother finding.

Don't you guys find forums are like free advertising.
Lol.
-
Btw what do you guys think about not-so-reputated rechargable batteries?
I just bought one, it says Product of Singapore, 210mAh. But I doubt its really up to the 210mAh mark...
-
Awesome, I'll have something more worthed awhile to use with my mini3 and ckk3 amp
Ah yeah, I hate hphones that clamps on your ears. Even using grado std bowls makes my ears swell and hurt, after several hours. I bend it wide apart, almost falling off but sure feels tons better.
Aaron-xp:
D5k? Hoho. D2k'll probably do the job very well. I can buy a onkyo hifi with the price tag. Speakers still gives a different experience.
Yeah, agreed.
Its quality music not music quality

I remember the first time I went to SLT to try to find the OPA2134 for the CMOY. The girl in Federal gave me a dirty look when I said I wanted only one piece and walk off. No explanation. At that time, they did not take orders for Farnell like they do now. And the girl is young enough to be my daughter. Very "chee keg"...
Ok lah, just don't go back there again. Now I find other places in SLT with cheerful and helpful staff. Stuff I can't find in SLT or Koba, I go on-line and buy from Farnell.
I see I see.. Well, for service like that, she ought to get fired
I have not bought from Federal before but Farnell does have a good service (other than that B*) - even to a student. Many shops (in general) treat students like CRAP as if we cannot pay
Yeah, if the shop's service sucks, they can forget about me going back to them, I would rather buy from somewhere else even if its more expensive

I went to read about D2000 on head-fi. Some people named the as "improved HD650", if its anywhere near that, its AWESOME.
Other than its "made in china"
Okay, D2000 is def my first choice now. Hope it does not get too warm when using, closed phone still have its benefits though.
Thanks sghound and everyone else!
-
Hey, cool it, man. Don't get edgy just over small thing. You have NOT got snubbed by the girl in Federal yet.
I decided the caps on the Mini3 isn't worth getting too upset about since they are power caps, so I am just using those which fit and are available. Mostly the lower grade Panasonics. For the record, I have not started building yet. I am still short of some tantalum caps from Farnell.
I have not heard of bass disappearing after burn in. But certainly "loose" sounding bass do tighten up and become more controlled, so you may think the bass has disappeared. Also the treble then to become less harsh and yet clearer. This also possible to make you think the bass is not so dominant.
Just my opinion.
you should go hear it first then. Na, I doubt thats the case.
-
Heady, you have built the mini3 yea? Do you feel the bass decreases as you burn in?
Thats how I feel. Its around 50+hours now. Its getting rather lean on the bass... How do you feel about it?
-
Well, act, you can use another 2 of them. I cant remember whats the location but they have it on Mini's site, as optionals. They specified for 10uF 16V but the 10uF 25V can be used, just slight oversized, not going to block anything just be careful with the lead spacing.
-
Hahaha. Yeah. But not that bad still.
Okay.
Just saw the price of D2000 on the post you made on another thread..
Both our thread are rather similar.. HD600 are quite recommended there, but will it do a good job for the music genres I listen to?
-
Actually from my understanding, FM series better than FC in their impedance values.
Yep, just the b*tch on the phone gave me the wrong idea about "out of stock" (she was just referring to Sg) and was so darn impatient. Lol.
Maybe one day I'll go get the FMs someday and swap them in.
I doubt it will change the SQ by alot.
Heady, do you use any specific series?

Haha. The on/off switch is built into the pot. You will feel a click when you on/off it.
