  1. are there any integrated or tube amps that can be bought below my $150 budget? smile.gif i plan to use this for my speaker setup which is actually on my desk. i hav a pair of small KLH 8 ohm speakers mounted on the wall, its a full range passive speaker, had it for quite a few years now, never really use them.

currently the speakers is being driven by my Sony CMT EX-1 mini compo, actually i was too lazy to dissmantle the KLH speakers from the wall bracket and replace them with the original Sony speakers tongue.gif cause all the cables and brackets are already done, i intend to use the setup for my PC as well cause all those cables are also there

i think with my budget, tubes are unlikly sleep.gif i don't know if there are amps winthin my budget, don't need a high end stuff, just somthing that has ok sound...or is it more sensible to stick with the Sony?

Yes there is actually if you don't mind a digital amp.

It is called Sonic Impact T-Amp. Cost about USD 29

There is a huge discussion in echoloft on it. They are organising a MO on it.

Don't be put off by its small size. It is baed on Class D amplification, so called digital amp. You would be surprise by its sound. Last year nearly want to get a digital amp setup from Spectron (based in US)

Well, look at the following link for some info :

Hmm, why am I deserving? Well no particularly strong reasons, apart from fulfilling all the criteria.

    1. An SGH member.

    2. Singaporean

    3. Dont' have an account with Gmail

    4. No amusing or interesting anecdotes to explain why I need it. All I can say is that I do need a large capacity file stoarge system on the web for easy internet assess from anywhere at work or home. I am currently using Yahoo briefcase for storage. I have to frequently delete files to make room for new ones. What do I store? Mainly documents and pictures. Pictures of my patients for research purposes, for showing to my colleages, for visual aids in discuss their management etc. Can't show you guys any of the pictures that I have due to confidentiality.

That's my reason for wanting a Gmail. Also, admittedly, personally, it will be cool to have such a large email storage! w00t.gifbiggrin.gif

  5. Well I guess you can DIY either using 2 mono 1/4". Or 2 stereo 1/4", if I'm not wrong you can just use a short wire to short the cold (RING) to ground (SLEEVE).

you mean there is a mono and stereo version of 1/4" plug?

Wow, I learnt new things everyday.

So which is suitable for what application? EG, which do I use for a DIY connecting wire for IPod to CMoy?

  6. I am currently doing so. using my IPaq 4150 as a MP3 player. The price of SD card nowadays are so cheap. Just got a 512mb SD for about $150. You can use the money for a MP3 player to buy a SD card. That will save you some money

The quality is ok. I don't expect much from a PPC. It is just a mean of music on the go without having to carry another device. A lot depends on the file format. With PPC, I can virtually use any format I want, eg MP3, WMA, ogg, lossless etc. Not restricted with a MP3 player format. Pair that with a good earphones and you are on your way. Believe me, a good ear phones or headphone play an important role.

I am sure there are people around you who owns PPC or Palm. Try it for yourself. Only you yourself can judge whether the quality is good enough for you.

    Hope this helps

  7. Thanks dude, that will be nice. As per New Type's suggestion, use a mini-compo or any ghetto-blasters and run in your cans using its tuner. Make sure the selected channel has strong reception. U could also use white noise prevalent between two adjacent channels.

What about running it through my soundcard? will that do?

  8. When you say upsampling, are you refering to the Marantz CDP? If so, which model of the Marantz cdp has upsampling? Coz I am looking for an upsampling cdp.

What do you mean by : price is not a major factor other than budget ? blink.gif

I am currently using a CDP which has an upsampling capabaility and a headamp output. Shanling T100C

I hardly use the upsampling feature.

You are welcome to my place to try it out. It has both a solid state and tube output.

I for one wouild like to test your HD650 with mobius cable..... biggrin.gif

Let me know if you are interested in listening to my CDP. I can provide beer and whiskey.

  9. Right my 2 cents worth......

I just got my can from Mackie yesterday. But I was busy the whole of yesterday and still at work today. Only managed to tried it for a while (1 hr+) .

The 650 is good. Better than anything I have tried. Not that I have tried a great deal. I am no expert in cans. My setup is mainly with speakers. Wanted to tried cans as 1) my curosity, 2) watched late night football in the room without disturbing my partner and 3) it is a new toy. So when the opportunity arise to purchase a top of the range can at what I think is a good price, I jump at it.

I am currently running it through my Shanling T100 CDP headphone output. Compare to my speakers (the only reference I know well), I noticed

    1) it is a tad bit bright at the high

    2) as Mackie pointed out there is sibilance at the high mid range.

    3) the 3D soundsate is good.

    4) a tad bit muffled (again compared to my speakers)

I put it down to my non-delicated output and the cans has yet to fully run-in. I will be getting a headphone amp to drive it. Also, hopefully I will have more time tomorrrow to try it further.

Overall, it is a good value buy at $400
