  1. Hey! Is this true? From what I know (film camera, sorry) lenses are normally not the limiting factor as far as resolution is concerned.

All factors play part, but lens plays the biggest part for the image quality, including resolution, especially in film. Film can be considered as a very high megapixel CCD. So normally film resolution is higher than the lens resolution. But in low megapixel CCD, No matter high the lens resolution is, the CCD will be the limiting factor.

Remember that "A camera is not better than it's lens" wink.gif

Hope I am not too OT but I felt that film (or CCD ) is the limiting factor and not the lens. My reason is I ever use negatives ASA ranging from 25 to 1000. It is quite obvious to me that the lower the ASA I used the more details I am able to get from the lens. Even when I use ASA 25 I can still see obvious improvement in details and I can get grainless 8R print. My theory is if the lens is the limiting factor then after certain ASA u should not see anymore improvement in details, and hence the lens is the limiting factor. So based on my logic as far as up to ASA 25, the film is still the limiting factor.

    Views from u guys?

  2.

---> resolution is usually limited by the lens, not the camera. No point getting a good camera...without equally good lenses. (which cost more than the camera anyway.)

  3. Received my shuffle battery pack yesterday evening, way ahead of the delivery time as promised by Apple which is 6th April. Actual thing quite cool looking. Will post some pictures once I can find time take some photos of it.

However instruction mentioned to use AAA alkaline battery only. My original intention was to use rechargable AAAs.

  4. This is a nice one to recommend:

James Galway Wings of Song DG 477 5236

Easy listening and nice mix of classicals and popular works.

Guess no stranger to forumners here as Galway has been a household name for many years. I am not ware that during the period from 1969 to 1975 he was actually the principal flute of Berlin Philharmonic and had been Karajan's first flute for 6 years. So for that 6 years he had been playing in most of the recordings made by Karajan.

  5. Yes, I think Chromatic Abberation is a matter of lens design, and I believe is more for telephoto lens, thus the so called APO design. At least for the film camera design that I am very familar with. Correct me if I am wrong. Not sure digital design itself gives rise to CA.

BTW Bram, the whole list of digital weaknesses u mentioned are they across the board for all digital types? Would the better design like those pro digital SLR hardware and software able to resolve some of those issues? Because at least at 8R I have not seen digital print out give obvious problem with those issue u mentioned. Maybe I have not seen enough.

  6. Although I place a lot of emphasis on quality, I do agree that it is the moment that is precious. So whether digital or flim they are just another media for capturing that precious moment. However I felt that it is the pressing of the shuttle release that captures the moment and not really the touching up after that captures the moment.

  7. Hi Rameish, no, not yet seriouly going into digital photo. Already invested in a full range of conventional gears and hard to start all over again. Further more I am a supporter of German stuff but I would say they are slow and lousy in the digital aspect. I believe they probably will never ever catch up again.

I am also still not convince that the digital picture quality is anywhere near conventional emulsion negative/positive, althoug I must admit that at 3R it could be difficult to differentiate if the camera man skill is good.

  8. I am a supporter of Apple and also very much respect Sim Wong Hoo. No matter what Sim is the first Singaporean that made it so big to the world and I felt that all Singaporean should be proud of him. But ironically Sim actually made it big first in US and then came back to Singapore home ground. I certainly was quite disappointed at his remarks on the shuffle. I think he need not to be so harsh. I am actually also quite disappointed when Creative teamed up with Microsoft as I really do not like Bill Gate for 1 reason or another. But I have to say in terms of business decision Sim is most probably correct.

Anyway, I am seeing lots of Shuffles around selling in various shops. Just Causeway point alone 7-11, Courts, a hifi shop and a computer shop are selling Shuffles. Not as fast probably but I think still going strong. I remember seeing the computer shop stocked around 15 of them and few days later (not hours anymore) left 2 512Mb models.

  9. Affirmative. Please email him direct for the amps. In any case, the ACV adapter is not suitable for UK power standards and thus, the lower price.

I'm also honored to announce Gary intends to send future versions/prototypes for my assessment. I will pass on my opinions to U chaps of course.

Yes, the AC adaptor supply Gary supplied does not work with our voltage. But beware when u purchase the adaptor in Singapore as the amp requires a mini jack as ext input and so far I see not all adaptors selling out there provide this small connection so please be careful. The adaptor should supply 3V and 200mA. Higher mA should be OK but if too high may damage the NiMH batteries inside the amp when charging with the amp off.

  10. Hai... thanks guys for the reply....

yeah, i did crank the volume rather high, reason being that the CM7 has very little isolation, and every morning alot of students chatting in mrt, so no choice have to turn up the volume.

guess i've to get new earphones then, might be going with the er6i since they look so pretty in white laugh.gif .

OT a bit. I am not sure your earphone is close or open but I suggest u get a close one for listening on public transport. Cranking the volumn so high will eventually damage your ears, which you are not able to buy no matter how much money u have!

  11. Was listening to this and think Mackie may like it.

This is a recording of Boccherini Cello Quintets ( understand from the CD booklet that he actually wrote 110 of Quintets for 2 cello). What striked me was the very difficult part given to the Cello I, and especially for the first Quintet on the CD in C major in many occasion the cello is playing as complicated and fast as the first violin!

Recording is as usual good for hyperion. Only one thing as these are Quintets performance and as in all chamber music performance of this nature the performers go for harmony and consistancy in style and tonal characteristics so if u are looking for the type of forceful and strong character from cello like that of Du Pre than then this CD is not what u are looking for.

  12. Fuwen>>How bad is this distortion? Cos I am thinking of getting one too since it's so cheap. Is there anyway to get rid of this distortion? Something to do with grounding the connectors? Sorry but I am not ee trained. Please advice.

Sorry, I am not EE trained also. The distortion I mentioned should be fine but what I mentioned is just more of a preventive measure just in case that day your luck not so good there it goes your headphone. I have encountered this before in other occassion but generally this type of distorsion is absence in the more expensive amp like my Bryston or Corda HA1 and HA2 and my HX-3 portable. These are the amps that I am using.

Regarding getting rid of the distorsion, any experts care to elaborate?

  13. You should most likely be quite happy with the PA2V2. One thing you may want to know is that the amp creats some distorsion with connecting or disconnecting connectors. So before u do anything of that sort like connecting/disconnecting interconnects or plug in or remove headphones remember to turn the volumn to the min and switch the amp off.
