  1. I would advise against thinking of using D2000 in a portable setup. I actually tried, and D2000 design is simply too thick, and the long coil of cable isn't going to make things easier too. D2000 doesn't block noise very well too.

Isolation-wise, your willingness to use a full-size can, and based on your budget, you may want to check out Shure 840, available at Stereo.

  2. Good link. What're you waiting for?!! :bash:

Finally my new project is done. Convert my old listening room to music library. Glad that my LP has a proper home. Now I can move back some of my collection from office. Guess it'll be full again. :helpsmilie:

Woah, it's been quite some time since I've visited and saw your mega room change! congrats man!

Never knew those IKEA racks are so LP-friendly.

  3. @ abhiroopb - i'm on a lookout for a pair of cans as well, and i happen to stumble upon your thread . . . coincidentally, i happen to have almost exactly the same requirements as you :)

i went to stereo @ plaza sing earlier today and tried out the following:

    - Denon AH-D2000

    - Grado SR-80i

    - Audio Technica ATH-ES55

initially, i had set my eyes on the ATH-ES55 after reading some reviews . . . however, i felt that the SR-80i was the most suitable for my taste (used to have the SR-80 many yrs back until i sold it) . . . but it was an open type (main reason why i sold my SR-80), so i wasn't really keen on getting it . . . i left the shop empty handed :(

after reading some more, the Sennheiser HD-25 seems to be a very good candidate . . . will drop by stereo again to test it out . . . maybe you can check it out as well

    here's a review on the HD-25:

    http://www.headfonia.com/headphones/sennheiser-hd-25-1/

the only gripe i'll probably have is that u can't fold it flat . . . but if i like the sound (and the price), i guess i can live with that :D

oh, and one more thing . . . the folks @ stereo are very friendly!

Are you looking for portable headphones or home headphones? If you are looking at the ES55, you might want to consider the ES7, ESW9. Or even the ESW10 and ES10 if your budget allows.

  4. When you have a good computer transport and a good DAC, the difference between using a computer as a source and a CDP as source may be quite subtle. My computer has an Asus Xonar D2X with digital output through a VDH Digicoupler coaxial cable. When I had my Stello DA100, the difference between coaxial input from the computer and optical input from a cheap portable CDP were minor, but the portable CDP had the edge in soundstaging and had a hint more clarity. I hear the same improvements with my Cambridge Audio 840C; coaxial input is not as good as pure CDP mode, but it doesn't lose that badly. In fact, my 840C is used as a DAC most of the time as I'm slowly but surely building up my CD collection.

There's no question that a good CDP or a good DAC can eat iMods for breakfast though, and maybe even lunch and dinner.

That has eased me quite a fair bit, as I've yet to really venture into the CDP path. Being short of physical space, CDs and cold hard cash. Hence I've decided to freeze developments on my equipments and simply enjoy what I have currently.

Though now I'm curious in how my DacMagic stacks up to the Stello DAC. Hmmmmm....

  5. Heh, am pretty envious with all the upgrades going on around here as well. Missed out all those audition moments as I'm pretty much swamped with assignments current. *Sigh*

Though less auditioning means less chance I would be tempted to buy. I'm still abit itching to auditioning the CD900ST and RS1 again. ^_^

  6. I would recommend the iGrado. Great musicality and clarity in general, and looks good. The street-wear design is great for people nowadays who doesn't want to mess up with their hairstyles with headphones that presses on the head.

Can be found below $80, but sadly Stereo doesn't seems to have stock of it anymore, Jaben on the other hand has stocks of it.
