  1. My first meet... and it was A BLAST!!! Barring unforeseen circumstances, I'll be at every Can Slam from now on!
  2. x2 It was certainly fun to finally put faces to the various nicknames on this forum... The pics by ALL the photographers are VERY impressive. Many thanks to you guys! You make the rigs look even more droolworthy than they are in real life! iCal will certainly headhunt you guys if he ever needs a backup for an assignment...
  3. I used to own the GS Solo SRG with the PSU1. My personal opinion is that it did not have enough power to drive the HD600 and HD800, which I own. In my experience, you need a powerful amp to remove the infamous Sennheiser veil, and the Solo (as good as it is) simply isn't powerful enough. This could explain your experience of "dead space between notes" and "no reverberation" with the HD800/Solo combo. I started to search for an amp that will drive my Senns with ease and ended up with the Darkvoice 337 with over 2W of power. Guess what? No more veil... Also, the HD800 needs burn-in. Lots of it. It is one can where I could detect a marked improvement after burn-in i.e. the character really changes. Lastly, the character of the HD800 can be changed with a simple cable swap. For those of you who think the HD800 lacks bass, try it with a Mundorf Silver/Gold cable... I'm not going into the debate regarding burn-in and cable swaps. Just give a fully burned-in HD800 (with a nice aftermarket cable) a good listen on a powerful amp. I'm sure you'll love the HD800 as much as I do. You have just that opportunity at Can Slam 09
  4. I just might bring mine if no one brings another yama...
  5. Or just use GPS since the postal code is already given...
  6. A very old 21.... You sound like HK singer Alan Tham...
  7. I've been told I look no more than 28...
  8. Nice pics yet again bro! You sure you don't wanna change your day job?
  9. Great shot nonetheless! What's important is that you captured the moment. Can ask iCal for a job if you wanna be a photog...
  10. Don't bluff...deep down inside, you KNOW you're a tube guy...
  11. Better than the Can Jam poster! If only we could see more of Jojo's hands - the signs he made will really complete the pic...
  12. Good man. She must have been sitting beside you as you were typing this... Say no more bro, we feel your pain...
  13. I'm in. Marantz SA8003 SACDP (modded by Effective Audio Mod) Darkvoice 337 HD800 HD600 with APS cable HF2 RS1 Own powercords, distributor and interconnect. I like the teaser poster Kachui! Maybe we should just use it permanently! Suggested Meet Name: Can Slam! ;P
  14. Ah! A fellow 337 owner! You and I need to swap notes on tubes... What's the name of the shop at Burlington bro? When you say "consider the price", do you mean that the things there are expensive? I'm definitely keen on the Jan Philips driver tubes What tubes are you using btw?
  15. Thanks. Yep, I think that's where he's taking me this Saturday... The HD800 needs a warm sounding amp, I feel. So a powerful tube amp is ideal for it. DV337 is rated at over 2W... I really like the HD800/DV337 combo - nice lush mids with a weighty mid-bass Highs not as sharp or sibilant as the HD800 may sound through some ss amps. Bass also not as deep as the 800/Apache combo. So if you like "sparkly highs" and deep bass, my 800/337 combo may not be ideal... Hahaha! Yep! All your fault... Had to get the HD800 after I heard your fully burned-in 800... Glad you've got your cable. Still no news from APS about my cable for the HD600... You got your amp yet?
  16. Sure If I sell my motorbike to fund it...
  17. Thanks bro. I already have. My driver tubes are Sylvania NOS 6SJ7GT and they have a low-level hum - they already have about 120 hours on them so I don't think it's a question of burning in My power tubes were Tung Sol NOS 6AS7G, but I found the bass a little lacking after over 60 hours. Just put back the RCA Black Plates and the bass is better Need to go with Sep to this tube place he recommends this Saturday...
  18. Not smart... just don't wanna fry an egg beside me as I sleep..... I think you know how f ing hot the DV can get... We can swap stuff anytime we like...
  19. I auditioned Jojo's Apache with Sep and I second everything he's said. The slam is the best I've heard and the bass is deep but very controlled The Apache sounds fabulous with the HF2 (the HF2 being a very forward and warm can IMO) and it balances nicely with the Apache's very analytical but slightly cold presentation of the vocals. With the HD800, it's just a tad too cold for my liking. Still, it's the best ss amp I've heard to-date Pity, I'm just a tube guy...
  20. Aiyah, shy mah. You guys' rigs all so fierce... Must wait until my rig a bit more respectable then I dare to post... The black Marantz fierce right! Now you know why I like it so much...
