The difference is very subtle, a slightly darker background. The Image control works though, by increasing the soundstage, the vocals tend to be more laid back, while decreasing it, the vocals come forward. I don't think I'll be changing mine, even though the Image control may come in handy at times but sonically they're very similar. Overall, the upgrade is just paying for the USB, remote control and Image control.
Time to eye for other DAC, with Sabre32 chips perhaps
I see a "Fruit" for DAC. I see going FULL DIY!

I move to rename thread... "What will be Jig getting next..." Lol!
Wow! The HE90 and Aristaeus Combo sounds scary with the bundled accesories and tubes. Not to mention 220V already.

So much choices.... which to buy?
Ey someone selling a Puccini CD player at echo loft....

I'm always for upgrading several notches in one leap so as to eliminate multi-staged upgrades which waste money and time. The best is to save until can upgrade substantially but of course it doesn't mean the most expensive is the best and as they have said over and over its about matching and how it sounds. But then again, it would still cost some to hear a substantial difference in quality, not forgetting it must look DAMN CHIO!!!
Amen to that!
But seriously after the rounds of testing (with consistency of the Apache and HD800 of course ). The EAR Acute seems to be the current winner. Even to a few CDPs that cost 2x the price.
But some expensive systems I tried like Jig_sg's orpheus CDP even not using the Apache tells me it's way better in terms of Sound qualiity compared to the Acute but it's more that 2x the price of the Acute though. Thus it's really important to be able to try out the source.
Anyway, the Astin Trew is also a great source from personal trials. My personal problem. I can hear the difference of having a balanced and an unbalanced source with my ears. I know Astin trew is cooking up a balanced version but there is still no official word to its release and final price.
The Cary came into my mind because of the digital input capabilities utilizing the built in DAC. Though I have no idea of it's price localy and most importantly how it sounds.

Being a realist.
Thinking of two now. The only question I have to answer is when will I be able to get the funds for these. I really hope early next year
Need to try this or the 303T
Current favorite

LOL are you guys serious? with the clothings.
I loved the mid-range with the orange shirt.

@Kidult
B22 is 40Watt per channel Amp. the B24 is a 100 Watt Per channel Amp. Both boards can be bought from AMB.

Another look what arrived in my office post. Lol!
I will try to take pics later.

Wah! You guys so free to poison yourselves. Jojo, you're damn on the ball to bring along your amp.
The nice thing on the apache. It's solid and yet not weighing a ton.
-
@Kchew
I'd also suggest for an electrician to check house wiring.
But, I would also try sniffing your power cord. Lol! it might sound weird but. a burned smell from a point in the power cords can help with an idea with what went wrong. The Furutech 13AMP fuse is Slow blow. unless there was a short in that circuit it won't likely fail.
In a very good way, I haven't had any problems with the Furutech fuse on any of my components, this includes a 13amp fuse on the UK Plug to my distributor.
@Sep
Post the pics you took this afternoon. It would be nice to see the apache with soo many expensive components. Lol! =)

Wait till he comes and raids YOUR nest...
Ey KDS I believe it's about time for pics of your collection...ehem.. rig. It should be awesome now. =)

Waah someone poisoned me again!!!
I may have a balanced closed can too.
-
Wow... you're on a roll bro. No stopping ya now... so what's next, hmm?
I wish it was mine though. A very great chap provided it on loan.
Now getting poisoned by the tube sound. the guitars is just phenomenal.
-
What was that?....
-
Waah! someone has now totally given up dynamics. Another victim of SE...ehem STaXXX.
Anyway, decided to try my old IMOD. It really sounds good as a unbalanced source.
-
Sound can't be measured based on specs. Just look at how bad the spec of LP with all that distortion, and yet it sound so heavenly. It makes me want to throw away my cdp.
I can arrange an LP audition at Coherence Audio, Amara Hotel for those non believer.
Please do inform me when the CDP is thrown away. I will be half an hour early to make sure I catch it without problems.
-
get it and review for us!
Waah I will stick to my dacmagic for the mean time. Lol!
For that budget, I can get my CDP already.
A good DAC must go with good transport. The best DAC in the world with computer as source is not going to sound better than a mid-end cdp.

Quoted from Jude at headfiZodiac, tentatively priced at ~$1500.00.
Zodiac+, tentatively priced at ~$2500.00.
Zodiac Gold, tentatively priced at ~$3500.00.

Actually there is the Zodiac Gold. That's the one with the highest specs. =)

I just read this thread on a new DAC from another site. Spec and look wise, seems smashing.

The Only thing is the Price can really Kill on the highest model supporting 384Khz, gold relays and a remote.
Btw, all of the models sport a headphone out that has configurable impendance up to 600 ohm.

Or also can: try more = know more = won't any how buy = save some innocent money
Price point of ionoclast quite good. I noticed that Mapleshade products like Silclear have "out-of-the-box" principles; have you seen interconnects made of plastic bags? hah hah..... The look is damn hilarious, but I suspect that the performance is nothing funny but seriously notable.
Back to topic on static murdering using cotton (is it expensive?), spray (I've heard Nordost is interesting) or whatever.... any sharing will be good.
I can now vouch for the Digital Cable. it really looked like a clear plastic bag with a hair of a wire. But the sound can go up againts a fully shielded cable. =)

I've been abusing (not on a Jig way. lol! ) my Audition CD for quite a while. Decided to buy the US press and lo and behold a "Special Edition" was available.
The bonus "Live Tracks" are nice.
My original audition CD is now a main stay at the office.

Waah! that's a dream Play Pen. The guitar just accentuates everything. Just lacking a gaming rig (3 panel screen) with some bookshelves....
I will have my chance to hear the K1000. If not for a freak sprained ankle last Saturday.
Just wish it had 2 x 3pin XLRs instead of the 4 pin one. So I could have tried with the Apache.
