  1. Compared to the earlier woodies AT made, I personally find the W3000 sound signature more balanced. Although none of the AT cans to me are balanced but at least the W3000 isn't too hot on the trebles, too dry on the mids and too stingy on the bass. They aren't a set of "good first impression" can to me for the price but spend some quality time going through various genres (yes, AT finally made something that I could listen to "various" genres of music), they simply grows on you and soon one will be addicted before you know it. :cans:

Soundstage wise, HD800 still wins in terms of wide but I find the soundstage very good for closed cans.

Audeze LCD 2 v2, is much stronger in the mid bass and generally more presence felt. I think that would depend on what music you listen to to determine if the LCD2 bass is just nice or too much, to me the LCD2 and W3000 is very excellent cans in their own ways.

Thank you very much for your insight with regards to the W3000anv vs the other headphones. Glad to hear that the new w3000s are a step up from some of the other earlier AT 'off-sounding' offerings!

That's why it is tough to just have a set of cans for every genre of music...

  2. Thanks for your reply. Saw Peak Fusion as distributor for Grace products but no info was found when I went to peak fusion website. I was hoping one of the shops in Adelphi will carry the product ;-) You bought yours from Peak fusion?

Yup, bought from them direct when I could not find any from Adelphi carrying the amp when first released.

You can try calling at 62876020 to enquire or email them at enquiry@peak-fusion.com.sg.

The previous M902 had quite a big following even locally, but I think currently not many getting the M903 (though I think I remember them saying that the first batch at Peak Fusion was fully allocated); could be due to price, other choices or just that it is still new in the market.

Cost me just under $2.7k with the remote control then. Might be more now due to the exchange rates.

Condition                          : Mint. Considered brand new except for break-in period (max 40-50hrs as occ copper cables break-in quite easily)

Selling price                      : HD800: $539, HE series: $499 (Non neg, around $200 cheaper than bought direct)

Preferred Location             : Meetup to be arranged

Preferred Mode of Contact  : SMS

    Contact Detail                   : 9-7-4-2-7-1-5-1

Own a HD800/HE-series headphones? You're not hearing this headphones at its best with the stock cable. Double Helix Cables produces some of the best replacement cables for many headphones.

    From their website (http://doublehelixcables.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=12):

'This Clone Premium cable is a more streamlined version of our flagship "Complement" cable, with a simplified shielding and dampening scheme to provide the principle advantage of the "Complement" - physical and electromagnetic isolation of left and right channels for more accurate soundstage and tonal balance.

The "Clone" consists two separate cables for left and right, made from pairs of our "Nucleotide" custom finely-stranded OCC copper wire encased in low-absorption dielectric, dampened with pure cotton and shielded with copper braid before being finished with sleek, nonmicrophonic black multifilament nylon. This design decouples left and right channels and removes the contaminating effect of vibrations and stray interference. The result is improved soundstaging and low-level detail while retaining the best sonic features of our Molecule headphone cable.'

See the above weblink for the exact photos of the cables (eg 2nd photo in the URL). Selling 3 (1x HD800, 1x LCD2 (sold) and 1x HE-series) brand new 10ft Clone Premium cable with DHC's own custom 1/4" plug and with Viablue Aluminium Splitter option. Beautiful, nicely constructed, soft and reasonably flexible. Reason for selling: These 3 cables are my extras meant for a 2nd head-fi system, but due to work, the system and cables were not utilised in the end. DHC cables are the bomb, they really make your headphones shine...even after selling these extras, I'm still using DHC cables, and have no intention to switch brands at all because they are really good.

HD800 version: $539, HE-series version: $499. Prices are around $200 cheaper than when bought direct, so they are non negotiable.

Please sms to 9-7-4-2-7-1-5-1 if interested to deal.

  4. MBD had a couple of 009 - they were sold even before they could be unboxed - so I and even the owner of MBD havent had the chance to hear them. Right now there are limited supplies (as always). Wait a while and I'm sure they'll have one for demo. It costs a bit more then the 007 II so be forewarned.

Thanks for the info! At its kind of pricing, I think few except the well-heeled will be 'rushing' out to buy them...

  5. If not wrong should be region of $1k odd, to be exact not sure.

Just find that Cambridge Audio & the prices rather commercialized.

At this kinda region pricing, many other choices as well.

Fully agree with this...that's mainly the reason why I go for other brands other than CA as well.

If want to buy CA, might be better off with a good cond preowned set. Pay a lot less, lose less imho.

  6. If anything at all, I find the clamping force of the LCD2s to be quite reasonable, not too tight, not too loose. But coupled with substantial 3rd party cables, they can be very heavy (as they are already quite heavy to begin with).

I'd probably rate them around 6-6.5 out of 10 for comfort vs the 8.5-9 rating I'd give for the HD800, but I'm largely more bothered about the weight than the clamping force.

If you get a chance to try it yourself, it will be best before you rush a purchase, because besides the factor you're concerned with, the sound characteristics may not be for everyone (though it is quite well received by most people due to the non-fatiguing presentation).

  7. LOL I see we're on opposite camps on this matter. Better not get into endless debate. :))

I'm a tweaker too. Love to "roll" opamps and tubes.

There's no right and wrong when it comes down to music/eqpt appreciation...what's most important is that you are enjoying your music and setup! No worries, will not debate or force my opinions down anybody's throats...

I occasionally roll tubes (plenty of tubed eqpt for both my hifi and headfi setups), but the nos stuff is getting very pricy these days...

Back to the LCD2...anyone interested to make headband for the LCD2s? I'm exploring the option to have a leather one made...the exposed foam seems very 'unpolished' and is bugging me a little.

  8. I would like comment IMO that LCD2 may be forgiving but it doesn't lack details. It present details in a more "organic"/natural way. It's hard to correctly put it in words, best to hear it oneself.

Against my other contending headphones in my stable, it is the most obscuring when it comes down to details, so much so I'm considering trying silver headphone cables to try with my lcd2s. Very comfortable to use for listening to vocals, but not my go-to headphones for orchestral or instrumental music. Of course, this is my own personal assessment only, ymmv!

I think I might understand the 'organic/natural' feel towards hifi...am a Harmonix tweak freak!

  9. Amp and headphone 'matching' is very subjective...like what kwhv experienced, only way to determine whether there really is a 'match' or not is to hear for oneself...online reviews also cannot trust because everyone's preference is different...having said that, I'm sure there are people out there that probably enjoyed their lcd2s with their burson amps (not personally tried that combo yet, so cannot comment)..

My LCD2 sounds great to me on my leben cs300x, grace m903 and sugden headmaster, warmest with the leben though (because of the tubed output).

The LCD2s aare generally warm and quite forgiving compared to a number of other higher priced headphones and are not too difficult to drive, so most solid state amps should do fine... as always, ymmv...

  10. Was hoping to audition Blossom headamps with LCD2 but apparently there's no distributor in Singapore. So went to audition the Graham Slee Solo. NICE!!!!! I find it very neutral sounding and I like it a lot with the LCD2. Gets out of the way and just provide the juice for LCD2. I chose SRG II over Linear cos I find Linear a little "lean" for my taste. But I have to mention that both amps are not well burn-in during the audition cos they are relatively new from the box.

On other note, LCD2 now also available at Stereo Electronics.

The LCD2s are not too hard to drive, unlike the HE6s, so it's a matter of finding a suitable amp according to one's preference. LCD2s sound good with solid state amps!
