Already have an existing Stax amp, and was looking for 4070 but find it very hard to get since it's out of production! I need something with closed back for gf to use while I'm sleeping or vice versa. So I went to try some closed headphones but wasn't very impressed by the quality of most of them.. tried many Denon, Audio Technica, etc.. so far find Ultrasone Ed8 not bad, but abit thin sounding (maybe the amp pairing?), and Beyerdynamic T5p also not bad though highs could be better (again pairing?). Anyone have any idea where I can get a 4070, barring which, is there any recommendation of something which I might audition?

Have this persistent crackling in the left of my headphones which I thought was a tube issue (from the tube amp). Only when I swapped around the tube at the shop did I realise that wasn't it. Now I have no idea is it something with the headphone or the amp.. any idea where I can get this looked at? Am not sure who would be familiar with stax..

Good that you are happy with it.. I went to stereo to try out the headphones a month ago, intending to buy, but in the end walk away with HD650 instead and a month later upgrade to stax. find that wired still beats wireless by a wide margin, but the convenience of cos can't be beat... the RS170 and 180 have no static which is a good improvement to what i recall about wireless headphones a decade ago, but best u check out the SQ if it is to your standard.
