isnt hgp... a floor standing speaker??
They have a bookshelf speaker.

As for the Eastsound, are there any companies here carrying them ?
The answer to this question was already given in page one of this thread.

You might want to do some legwork and audition some cd players or transports/dacs at the shops. The problem with trying to make a decision based on other's opinions, preferences, theories, reviews, hearsay etc is that you end up analysing until paralysing. Try some stuff out yourself and see what happens. Bring your headphones, amp, interconnects and some CDs along.

Yes. I placed the speakers..*drum roll* on my table top.
*Waits for cmk to develop apoplexy*

x 2. I find that with speakers I can listen comfortably at much higher volumes and the overall presentation can be vastly superior to a headphone setup. I cannot listen to headphones at loud volumes.
Heard that you just got your HGP speakers. I listened to them briefly at Sky Audio. Very good stuff. I would recommend you pull them out into the room(TS recommended 52" from rear wall) with almost no toe-in. Listening position about 45deg angle with the speakers and have a listen.
Thanks for the input but I cannot pull them out any further than I already have. The listening position and speaker placement has already been optimised as far as it is humanly possible within the confines of my room. I guess we all hear things differently because I've had the whole range of comments from different people on how my setup sounds, from "very good imaging, transparent, musical" to "lifeless, no bass, got synergy problem"
P.S. I have no space for speaker stands even. You can say that my speaker setup was quite literally shoehorned into my room

I know cattylink but was thinking of actually looking and testing the players before purchasing them which is one reason why I hoped someone in Singapore actually carries them...Guess I'll have to make another blind purchase...
I know some people on echoloft bought the eastsound. perhaps if you asked them very nicely they can let you have a listen...

on speakers i can drive them to pretty high volumes without the sound pressure being too high adding to a tad of realism, headphones.. a little too high becomes uncomfortable

Eastsound you can buy directly from Cattylink in Hong Kong. Nobody in Singapore sells them. Last I heard 1 dealer in Singapore approached them but Eastsound was not interested. Go figure.

Who or which band would you prefer?
Usually, I buy a product based on its own merits. The problem with endorsement comes when they use a person I cannot stand, then suddenly that product is off-limits for me. Like Seiko using (yucks) Ekin Cheng to promote their watches. Paris Hilton? Bleah. But of course, if I've already bought the product in question, then no big deal. But I will also usually never buy anything else from the same company again. The only exception is if George Dubya Bush suddenly endorses Grado I'll be pouring kerosene on my RS-1s and setting them on fire. Errmm...nah, I'll just sell them. My behaviour is not uncommon amongst consumers, so celebrity endorsement is often a double edged sword for companies marketing their products.
I personally prefer the Ipod line because its a lot more consistent. And there are more accessories available for it. Creative is a lot less focused, its quite confusing following their product lineup. And their lawsuit against Apple makes them look pretty bad to a lot of people, which will also have an effect on their overall sales.

Well, not too long ago, Creative had Paris Hilton to promote its Zen Micro yea?
And THAT was the final nail into the coffin for me. I'm never going to use a Creative mp3 player.

When I'm free to listen to music and its after 9pm, headphones
When I'm free to listen to music any time before 9pm, speakers.
If I'm working on something or reading and want music, speakers for background music at half of my listening volume, so can play even at midnight. I cannot seem to be able to multitask while wearing headphones.

Perhaps you can contact firefox about your diy amp needs, or just buy the one in my avatar
PM me for more details.

Looks like this will be a good one for people who love the RS1 but have comfort issues with it, or find the presentation a wee bit upfront. If I didn't already move to speakers I've a feeling I might have caved in and ordered one!

sometimes i get the camp dog to sleep outside my bunk... and it will stay there till the next morning... so was quite toolan when someone ordered the dog to be shot!!!!
the dog was a very good companion especially those with DO or BOS duty...
What! They shot the dog?
When I was in Nee Soon camp it was a dog's paradise. Plenty of them roaming about, one of the CSMs even adopted one of the dogs. Heck, the dogs had free run of the place, but there was once they caused a bit of inconvenience. 2 of them were humping in front of the company line blocking the entrance to the office and nobody could go in or out until they were done!!!

But sometimes the system is really hilarious.
I enlisted as PES E temp, then kena upgraded to PES C9 and later did my BMT about nearly 2 years later. My whole BMT company was made up of people like myself so the lowest rank in the company was lance corporal LOL(We had to shave botak but were allowded to retain our rank and nametags, which caused confusion amongst the real recruits, as you can well imagine). I was excused from so many things it wasn't funny. Ever heard of excused marching? And I didn't even ask for that one

av98m, that one really dumb man. Maybe his leg insured, SAF dun wanna take risk?Dunno man, now I remember his name. Lee Man Hon.
-
Lots of kengsters in the army. My friend's platoon had a national soccer player who was PES C, "Excuse Leg"!!!! And yet he could play for his club!!!
-
I dunno man, playing rob zombie or dream theater through 88db bookshelves driven by an amp outputting 3.5 watts seem to e a recipe for disaster. Maybe I can play it soft, but then what's the point? I'll have to stick to solid state 100w and above monsters

I actually haven't came across any need for GST when i ship anything in. My condolences.Anything with declared value of over $400 you will kena GST.

The headroom max can double as a preamp.A pre-out is being added to my headphone amp as we speak so I'm now looking for a power amp myself.
Try out the Sun Audio 2A3, you will like it.
I doubt it will work well with my 88db speakers. Probably clip.

CD67 Sold.

Portable amps only made an improvement for me when I was using the line-out(not headphone out) of a discman. For mp3 players like the ipod, nothing.

they think that BURN IN = DEREASING THE PLAYER'S LIFE SPAN + WASTING ELECTRICITY.......ÂHehe I don't mind bruning the GS1000 for you , bring it to me.
