  1. Lekguan,

To me, its either you choose to to buy originals only, or take advantage of cheaper pirated products. I don't see how buying pirated software and games is any less "going against your conscience" compared to buying pirated music and vcds/dvds. The development costs for software/games is by no means cheap, and costs have to be recouped, just like that for music cds. You cannot criticise people for downloading music or buying pirated CDs if you yourself buy pirated game software or DVDs, justifying your actions by saying that they are not "worth it". Others might not find the price they have to pay for music CDs "worth it"

Buying pirated products of any kind is wrong, because none of the money you spend to pay for them goes back to the product's developers.

Of course, if you stick to your principles across the board and do not actually buy anything(pirated software, games, dvds/vcds etc etc, which by the way all feed criminal organisations, not just music cds) that is not original, I salute you.

If however, you choose to selectively support the music industry by buying originals but half the software in your PC is pirated, none of your DVDs are original etc, well, there's this saying about a pot and kettle...and another one about casting the first stone...

  2. You can audition mine if you wish (No, I'm not selling them

    Thanks for the offer! biggrin.gif

A short review would be good enough. How does it compare with the KSC 55/50 Find the sound pretty decent.

Think Hung bros will let me audition them? Quite fearful of my BIG head laugh.gif

Actually planning to use in together with my IMP400. Why did you stopped listening to MP3?

Because all my MP3s were the crappy ones downloaded from kazaa. The PX100 showed up all the ugly details. I was using a $10 pair of earbuds before.

I've never listened to a single Koss headphone, so I can't compare. I can only tell you the PX100 sounds VERY good compared to $10 earbuds. rolleyes.gif

Not very helpful, I know. You HAVE to listen for yourself.

  3. Home CDPs tend to have higher outputs (usually 2 volts) hence the amt of volume control is rather limited.

    My 2¢

Yes, I find setting the volume level is a little bit trickier with the Airhead when hooked up to the CD player. rolleyes.gif

Slightly OT, I was wondering why my Airhead recently seemed to be noisier when using dc power, but fine on batteries. Then I saw the surge protector posts in the solid state thread, took a closer look at my newly purchased power strip, and noticed for the first time the words surge protection on on end. I switched to an older power strip with no such markings and problem solved, no more extra noise from the Airhead. w00t.gif

  4. Michael (Guang Liang) - First Time

I've had this CD for quite a while and only last night did I realise that it was recorded in HDCD format when I noticed the HDCD indicator light up on my player. Upon closer inspection of the CD, found the tiny HDCD wording on the CD itself, no other indication on the cover and back.

  5. Not no one, maybe not a lot of people.

I'm one of the weirdos who uses a portable(airhead) as a home amp. rolleyes.gif

And if its raining heavily or I wish to listen to music anywhere else but in my room, I simply disconnect the airhead from the cdplayer and hook it up to my discman instead. Of course, its best to have a larger one for home use as well as a portable, if budget permits. But it does not necessarily mean that portable amps are no good for home use. headphone.gif

  6. av98m, I would agree that the recording is dependant on matching equipments maybe. I used them on my portable gear and the distortion is there. Once I played it on my home system speakers and home headphone setup the distortion disappeared like it was not there. I also remembered at Ramiesh's house listening to it when ablaze pointed it out it was there (the distortion on the first track ~1m 25s). Might it be system synergy? unsure.gif

Probably. unsure.gif The distortion does not show up when the track is played on the speaker system at That CD Shop. But it did show up when played on a colleague's $10k+ home speaker system. Luck of the draw??

  7. Btw I intend to use it with my discman and the headphone's should be an all rounder outdoor usage.

The SR80 is great for indoor use but I'd advise against it for outdoor usage, due to the very open nature of the headphones. A lot of sound will leak out (and in). Don't get me started on the long and thick cord.

For example, I have to turn off my PC when listening to my SR80s in my room because I would otherwise hear the hum from the PC (partly because I listen to music at very low volume these days). And when I take off the headphones I can hear exactly what is playing on it. There are times I'm tempted to use the SR80s as speakers instead.

Now imagine using the SR80s outdoors, in noisy buses and MRT trains. no.gif

Just my 2-cents, based on actual experience and ownership of these headphones. For indoor use, I highly recommend them.

  8. Emi Fujita - Camomile Extra

A great sounding album overall, but disturbingly, despite the alleged 24bit/192khz mastering, there is some distortion/noise, esp on the first track, Fields of Gold, at the 1:27 mark.

    Evanescence - Fallen

I actually like every track on this album, which does not happen often. I must have a thing for vampire/gothic music.

Track 2, Bring Me To Life, has some noise/distortion.

The problems were audible even at very low volume. hammer.gif

I missed them when trying them out at That CD Shop probably because of the loud booming of their subwoofers in the background.

I'd be very happy if all of my CDs sounded like those by King Records(Japan). Zero problems with all of them.

  9. I believe I paid $70+ for it from Best Denki. The PX100 is what started me on this slippery slope, made me give up kazaa downloaded MP3s and resume buying CDs instead. Nice warm sound and decent bass. Light and comfortable too. But its open, so there's sound leaking out. You can audition mine if you wish (No, I'm not selling them).

  10. So much for local service standards. A lot of room for improvement. I fail to understand how retailers expect people to pay for merchandise without trying them out first, with a no return policy to boot. Case in point, I was looking for a protective cover for my sony pda and the original sony ones in the local shops are all sealed in the packaging. When I asked the shops if they had any open samples for me to try with my pda, all told me no. Same story for a lot of consumer items i.e. they will remove from display case only if you are buying it. Which explains why a lot of my shopping is done online, at least you can return them and get a refund or exchange if you find the item unsuitable. I would have purchased my Etys online(probably headroom) instead of Hung Brothers for that reason. Luckily, I was able to audition and purchase the Etys from someone locally.
