  1. the S1 is a good camera smile.gif and Nikon F-mounts should hav no problem finding a lens

a good buy @ $499 for a camera that used to cost more then the D70

3MP will still produce good pictures, most likly better then other 3MP pocket digicams on the market, with the F-mount, this can be a stepping stone for future upgrade...like D70...D2h...D2X w00t.giflol.gif since they all use the same lens mount

for the lens, a 50mm F-1.8 Nikkor is less then $200, another good starter lens is the 18-70mm D70 kit lens, this should be below $400 in SLS

we may hav a new member for the D70 club soon...rite heady? tongue.gif

  2. Wah all this talk makes me wanna get back into photography.

Currently I have 3 Olympus OM1N, one OM40 and several Zuiko lenses sitting in my electronic dry cabinet LOL. Also have a Nikkormat and a Nikon FM with several Nikkor lenses.

Looking at the shorts taken in this and other threads in this forum I would say it's not the camera but the person behind it that matters most. If you prefer the feel of one model/brand over the other then go fo it.

For me I voted for Olympus - I think a fairer comparison in this budget class would be the E-300.

    Nikon FM fear.gif Olympus OM40 fear.gif and a Nikkormat wub.gif

almost "museum" pieces u got there Rameish laugh.gif would love to see a pic of all of them together.

the E-300 somehow just doesn't "feel" like a DSLR, i guess its made for people with smaller hands, its the main reason i didn't include it in the poll, i kinda knew this isn't the camera or DSLR i was looking for the moment i touched it sleep.gif

  3. nice shots thumbup1.gif the first pic zoo shot is cute smile.gif

the 70-300mm Nikkor tends to under-expose cause its not a bright enough lens

N@Z take more shots of shops in Brunei smile.gif we never see what they look like over there.

going shooting along the NEL tomorrow, most likly in Chinatown & Harbour front and my fav Clark Quay

  4. w00t.gif but u can still get the promo lens and sell it off, @ $88 its just too good to past...it can easily fetch a price of $100-$150 if its unused.

hav u tried the SB800 as a remote flash N@Z?

its quite fun yes.gif can get the flash really close to the subject when using bounce, very nice effect yes.gif need to set the D70 flash to commander mode

  5. D70 + SB600 in SLS biggrin.gif

check out the expressions on these 2 clowns crazylaugh.gif

    user posted image

i'm getting more used to the flash smile.gif will continue to practice with the SB600

$170 is a good price for the 50mm, i was quoted just a few dollars less but including GST

yes blues, show us some pics from the 50mm, it should be better for portraits then the kit lens smile.gif

  6. forgot to add...i got my speedlite today as well tongue.gif

the bug was too strong for me to fight lol.gif

u can see the difference in color reproduction between an Olympus & Nikon, the Olympus is a little more "redish" with very livly greens, here the Nikon got the more accurate colors smile.gif the table has too much red when taken with the C8080

here's a shot of my "Honda Accord" PIAA JTCC special with all its "battle scars" tongue.gif

only crop and apply auto levels in Photoshop Elements, it seems the Nikon RAW format is not recognize in Elements, but currently i'm happy with the results shooting in Jpeg fine quality smile.gif

also did a few shots with the 70-300mm lens smile.gif

the fish belongs to my father smile.gif the focus was no very good but i like the bubbles laugh.gif

the SB800 price is almost double that of my SB600, after some serious thought i decided to go with the 600, i think the results is value for money smile.gif N@Z, what shutter speed to u shoot with the SB800? with my SB600, it seems to produce better results when i shoot at higher speeds (80 - 125) my first tests with the flash at 1/30 speed seems to produce under-expose pics.

it got better when i increase the shutter speed, the flash seems to increase its intensity and that gave my a better exposure

  7. Nice shots Tropical wink.gif Did you use custom WB? If you like to use custom WB, try a foam cup (take one from the food court tongue.gif ). Put it in front of the lens, point the lens to the light source, and set the custom WB (or take a pic for custom WB reference).

Also try C1 DSLR Pro, it is very good RAW converter, eventhough not very user friendly. The PS CS RAW also gives a lot of adjusment, but be carefull with the sharpness adjustment. I found it it very ugly ppth.gif So use the sharpness adjustment mildly and wisely happy.gif

    Just my 2Cents tongue.gif

i used auto WB -1 and florescent -1 for the SLS shots, they both look the closest to the original colors.

the foam cup tip is very interesting smile.gif will try it, i think they also hav something like this for sale, its like a filter but only for setting white balance.

i prefer to shoot with custom white balance whenever i can cause i don't like to use flash, unless the subject is actually posing for the shot then i'll use flash to get a better exposure

  8. a test shot this morning with custom curve smile.gif

    in SLS

the color is still a little off, but i think this was due to the lighting in SLS and i did not hav a flash

lion dance performance, it was higher then it looks smile.gif

i remember the color of the lion is yellow, but i can't get that color on the pics

    user posted image

i took over a hundred shots, most of them were blur due to the movment cause i didn't hav a flash to allow a faster shutter speed, this is 1 of the better ones

  9. ok i tried the curves setting, seems to be what i was looking for smile.gif

it needs to work with the Nikon capture software, but that was fun biggrin.gif u can control all the cameras setting from the software, inculding all the controls and u can shoot from the PC and it captures directly into the hard drive, very useful for trying out settings...lets u see the changes without removing the CF card

here's a shot with normal setting

    user posted image

here with mid tone boost curve that i downloaded

    user posted image

it seems to hav overcome the under exposure problem that people complain about for Nikons, the 2 shots were taken without changing any other setting except for the curve.

it was set to long exposure making the test not as accurate, will try it again tomorrow when there's natural light

  10. yes N@Z, it extends out like the kit lens, can see it from the pics i posted with D70 + 70-300mm lens.

do u guys find the pics from D70 "blueish" it makes the sky look very nice, but at the expense of greens, i collected my prints today, the sky is wonderful, but the greens are not as lifely as those from Olympus.

i remember reading from somewhere that Olympus alter their CCD pixels so that the greens come out better...

so now we hav 4 confirm team D70 members smile.gif anyone else? laugh.gif Bpribadi??? tongue.gif

  11. i'm taking in medium Jpeg, fine quality, going to let the photo lab print some of the shots i took in 4r size to see how it turns out.

any of u guys bought the remote control for the D70? wondering if i actually need it...its $18 @ the shop i bought the D70 from

on the subject of mono-pods, i saw this automatic pod from manfrotto in TK this afternoon, $135 has a very cool design, but its also heavier then the other mono-pods

  12. i'll get the speedlight...end of the month...if i can fight the bug lol.gif most likly SB600

currently i actually use my Olympus Fl20, it can't sync with the D70, but i can use it with full manual mode, just need to take a few extra shots to find the correct exposure tongue.gif

for spare battery, i'm using the included adaptor that use 3 pcs of CR2, it works well and its lighter then the original battery.

i'm not sure if the Lexar comes with the CD, do u shoot in RAW file N@Z?

i hav yet to install the Nikon software, using a card reader with PS elements from Olympus

yes Qoo tongue.gif we need more D70 club members lol.gif

  13. i think to get the lens from Nikon direct, u just need the date on the invoice to be correct, if its the same month i don't see why the dealer won't give u a new invoice smile.gif

u going to need another filter for the 70-300mm lens cause its 62mm and not 67mm like the kit lens, so u can try ask them to put everything into 1 new invoice with a new date, remember to bring everything along...invoice...warranty card...camera tongue.gif

when u buy another thing from them it'll be easier to get them to change the invoice or giv u a new one lol.gif

  14. they "heck care" with the date biggrin.gif its from Alan Photo.

they didn't even write the date on my warranty card or take the carbon copy, i still hav the warranty unfilled tongue.gif

i was told this lens used to come FOC with one of the Nikon film cameras, and the D70 dealer cost was $1600, when they sold it to me @ $1680 including GST (without CF card), they made $0, but with Alan photo they probably got the D70 stock during promo meaning it came with a 1gb card.

so they made $88 + whatever price they are able to sell the 1 gb card for, cause the camera was sold to me @ cost price, this is how they work, they can probably claim the 70-300mm lens from the agent cause they took down my serial number, even if they can't claim they still do not lose cause the lens they sold me for $88 most likly came as an extra for the film camera which they de-bundle lol.gif

this is why some of the bigger dealers are able to giv promo without going though the agent kicking.gif

  15. Not bad indeed. Well worth the measly $88 bucks! I don't mind if you decide to keep the lens blues.

'Rips, if you have time try the lens out under low light conditions as IIRC this was mentioned as one of the lens' weakness.

i did try try it when the light was no good, its not usable without a tripod, u can't get a fast enough shutter speed for good exposure and the pictures come out blur due to camera shake.

the ED version will do better under low light and it has a metal mount...i think

    i added this today smile.gif a Slik pro pod 600, $78 from T.K. photo

    user posted image

its has much better build quality then my Manfrotto, will need at least a mono pod when shoting at 300mm, even some of my outdoor shots today was no good cause its very hard to hold the frame at full zoom, u can see the pic in the frame going up & down in the view finder laugh.gif

i will be ordering the Lowepro LC-1 bag for the 70-300mm lens, don't want to carry a big bag when shooting tongue.gif

  16. yes, i'm going to swtich over tonoght, i found out the problem is with our SGH server, it keeps changing the codes in the post after i edit them, they keep going back, the "&image" in the code keeps getting deleted by the server no.gif

i hav remove the auto thumbnail codes from the post, this seems to work but will take longer to load
