  1. I'm using Sony EX71SL. Normal earbuds but with good isolation with 3 differnet sizes to fit. If you're on a budget, its terrific! Mainly for the in-flight programme & usually have to remove it to talk or hear.

One additional point which I find it useful - you can turn your head & sleep on your side with earbuds  (you can't do that for headphones)!

  2. Open, dynamic, medium-size supra-aural earpad.

Nominal impedance 32 ohms - plug directly into CDP/PCDP/MP3 & play!

Original 3m Y-type detachable OFC cable.

Versatile - I use it from classical-vocals-pop at home.

You'll be surprised at its level of detail.

Irresistable at its price range (new S$110).

Just stumbled on this at Gramophone.

Neville Marriner / Academy Of St Martin-In-The-Fields

Mozart : 4 Horn Concertos + Oboe Concerto

Alan Civil (Horn) & Neil Black (Oboe)

    Philips "50 Great Recordings"

    96kHz 24-bit super digital transfer

For those interested, Canadian Brass will be performing Bach at the Esplanade.

Neville Marriner / Academy Of St Martin-In-The-Fields

with Thurston Dart & William Bennett

    J.S. Bach : Orchestral Suites 1-4 BWV 1066-69

    Decca Label

Great value. 4 Suites in 1 CD. Marriner/ASMF as usual excellent.

And of course, Suite No. 3 has the famous "Air" piece.

  6. Another version:

Bought this Naxos Hybrid SACD/CD from Gramophone sale.

It has CD Stereo layer, 2-Channel Stereo Mastered in DSD & 5.1 multichannel surround mastered in DSD.

The Butterfly Lovers Concerto with Takako Nishizaki / New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

The Concerto is in 1 track.

The other 8 tracks are by Peter Breiner: Songs and Dances from the Silk Road consisting of folk melodies.

  7. wow, av98m

what sort of mods did you do to the DT880? i thought its single-sided cable.

& how come there are 2 XLRs out from the amp?

    thks

Mod edit: Try to refrain from making discussion on this thread as its meant to be a showcase of our members' systems. The entire adventure of av98m cans and amp was discussed in an earlier thread. Please do a search for it. Include av98m as contributor to narrow the search.

  8. just to throw in a couple more CDP models to audition:-

    Cambridge Audio Azur 640C

    NAD 542

i believe both are in the $600+ price range (new).

i've observed that quite a number of forumers here use the NAD as their source.

640C has positive reviews, esp on its DAC, but somehow not as popular for headphone setups?

  9. let me concur with Charismatic. i haven't had much experience with other headphones. i am still using the HD497 for 1.5 years now without complains (except with the itch to upgrade).

often using it directly into CDP/int amp without any headamp. its comfortable for extended usage. meets your budget (new~S$100). versatile for wide range of music. even light enough for PCDP.

  10. That is a nice link Mackie. Tasty tube amps at shockingly tasty prices.

Tenson they have the VAL VP110S TUBE AMPLIFIER amp significantly cheaper than the UK price!

kuryakin, nice nick. Reminds me of the Rock Steady Crew of the early 80's.

Yeah N@Z, but I'm looking at something a little more tasty than that wink.gif

    CAYIN A-88T TUBE AMPLFIER

    thanks all

N@Z, 'kuryakin' was taken from The Man From UNCLE series - name of the russian partner. biggrin.gif

Tenson, so cattylink.com is a direct-order only site? are the shipping periods/rates reasonable?
