my ps-1s had a moderately better midrange, better treble extension, and sounds much better with string/brass instruments. With everything else, such as bass quality/quantity, frequency balance, clarity, detail retrieval, the e500s win. Of course no IEM i've heard comes close. the only thing was that i remember my old um2 had 'subwoofer in your ears' kind of bass. the e500 is not so powerful. but sh*t, its still hits like crazy, and sounds 5 times better doing it.

just preliminary impressions here, hope it helps

So are your PS-1 for sale? :DD

  2. Mackie, thanks for your advice and you're right, passion sometimes twisted my logic, I'm a sucker for cool looking gear.

I'll certainly take your advice on the Stax 001. By the way, how does the Stax 2020 compare with your favorite Beyer or Senn?

I'll check out the PA2V2 or Xenos, but the Larocco amp sure looks sexy.

"The Hornet" also looks sexy too. :))

So is the G1000 that great? At Headfi they claimed it was a rediscovery of classical music, or something like that.

I can say that yes the GS1K is good for the classical music. It difference from the others Grado range. For whose heavy metal gene, you got to have a very good HP amp to control the “Bass” of the GS1k or else it very fuzz...

  4. However, if somehow down the route, I've decided to go back to my PC-based solution route, I guess I'll get either the Benchmark DAC-1/Grace 902m.

If you want to use the DAC headphone out, I advice you to get the Grace 902m it much better than the Benchmark DAC. If you going to use only the DAC out to the speakers system than the Benchmark is ok.

I had the Benchmark DAC - Balance out (XLRs) to the HD650 and preferred the GW 2.6F (Philip Miniwatt A frame ECC88 tubes) with the HD650 much better SQ. :P
