  1. I tried a few XRCDs. I can say that they sound different, but not necessarily. Once I opened up the WAV file of a song from both the redbook version and the XRCD version. Visually it's easy to tell that the XRCD is more compressed than the redbook, which may not be good news.

The proof is in the listening, specs alone cannot tell the whole story.

  2. Hi Aaron

Here's another version of Bach's Goldberg Variations I think you should grab:

    IPB Image

    MA Recordings Catalog Number: M024A

Very good recording of a wonderful alternative performance of this great piece. The piano is a specially tuned Steinway D concert grand (circa 1903) by the performer's husband! The piano is specially tuned for Baroque music, listen for it, it sounds harphischord-like. Highly recommended!!!

  3. Before yesterday, I went to Diva website and found that most amps are in the thousands, until last evening I realize that they also have headamp (not mentioned in their website). If it is around S$750, then it is within my budget.

Do you have any experience with Diva headamp + MS2? Can give any input? Thanks.

The website is just an intro for the uninitiated. What I find useful is the Diva Book.

The headamp is available at Jaben and it is within your budget.

I have the Diva + MS Pro/AKG501/AT W100, DT990, pick one, all sound good, but my favourite is the ATW100. The DT990 combo is also very good match. FYI the Diva was designed with the AKG501, so driving that (difficult to drive) can is not a problem. In the design of the Diva, I asked Lim to specifically design it to drive both low impedence and high impedence cans. I think he has succeeded wonderfully.

Threadstarter just wanted a recommendation for a headphone for a digital piano, I don't think he mentioned anything about playing in the night or even if he's looking for a headphone because it was too noisy playing it.

I don't have a digital piano but a acoustic piano that my kid plays and he usually don't connect a headphone to it so frankily speaking, I don't know if it would still be noisy enough to disturb the neighbours even with open headphone on?? I mean I know you can hear a open can from a distance but neighbours?

For the threadstarter, read from the internet that your P70 weighs 13kg and only if it's not too troublesome to bring your digital piano along, you can bring them along to audition the headphones to confirm for yourself that what you hear is what you want.

    Cheers ^_^

If you are so concerned about the thread, then answer the question and recommend a headphone.

By neighbours, I meant to include people in the next room.

  5. I'm not that crazy a beatles fan, just wanted to listen to some of their music to see what its like.

Nagaoka are not ricepaper type, they are plastic sleeves. Some don't like them, but I've not had any problems with them so far, my preferred sleeve.

Parents say that cos they are footing the bill you know. Actually I kind of advocate a balanced approach. Study hard, but play as well, just know where the boundary lies. Though I think Aussies play too much, but compared to SG, they have a more balanced lifestyle.

  6. Aaron, how many LPs do you have to clean? If its a handfull, I can clean them for you, quality assured. Plastic sleeves get Nagaoka from NDV, they are from Japan. Mofi sleeve not sure, but they won't be cheap, again check with NDV, agent for Mofi.

Is that your gal in the siggy?
