  1. cool .... so burning in at the moment ? hope to hear it some other time ..... so how it sound to you ? happy.gif  laugh.gif

You must definitely come to the meet to experience first hand the AT shoot-out - W100, W1000, W2002, L3000 & GW9.

HPC, wah so many models. Which ones did I get to hear yesterday? I know the W100 and I think it was the W2002, or was it something else?

What are your opinions of their respective sound? I think we kinda have a similar understanding of what good sound is.

  2. I'd like to thank you guys who allowed me to kaypoh at your meet so that I could "curi" some designs. biggrin.gif But seriously, it was an ear opener, wax regardless, as to how far chaps would go in achieving audio nirvana.

DIYer, were you there? I must have missed you. What time did you arrive?

Mods, next time we need to add name/nick tags for newbie like me. wink.gif

  3. I'm still dreaming of the AT W100, love the wood, love the sound together with the SHA-1, one of the most balanced, natural sounding setups. If only I had my bonus NOW!

    Oh, special mention for :

Consonance 2A3 amp - great tubey sound thumbup1.gif

Consonance CDP - if you can get your hands on this its very good, detailed and musical. av98m - what are you waiting for? date.gif

Firefox's 2 box headamp - so far the best solid state headamp I've heard. I've not heard a lot, but this one get's most things right, to the point of sounding almost like a good tube amp. party.gif

  4. Thanks for all your recommendations! I finally bought an EX71 from Hung Bros today at $79. My first impressions:

Isolation is fantastic. I used to listen at full volume on my mp3 player whenever I'm in crowded places, bus, train. Now with this earphone I can turn down to half volume! And walking around SLS with their loud music blaring I can still clearly hear my music. Very impressed with it.

Comfort wise it feels a bit like the SAF ear plugs, but softer and more comfortable. Definitely more comfortable than my old regular Sony earplugs which never fit my ears well and were painful to wear after 10 mins. (Too big for my ears)

Unfortunately the sound quality isn't much to crow about. Mid-ranges sound a bit soft compared to the highs, and bass was also weak. Surprised about the bass, since I read in headfi forums that the bass was over-strong. For example, I listened to Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton and the guitars sounded very clear and bright, but the vocals in comparison were soft and slightly muddled.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase since my primary concern was with isolation and saving my hearing! However if you just want good sound quality, then look elsewhere.

Try not to judge the cans immediately after purchase. They usually take a couple of hours at least to run in, and probably after a week to sound their best.
