  1. The following is my interesting experience on my CardDeluxe->HD580 combo. I got this hd580 from a friend about two weeks ago. laugh.gif

I like the sound of 580 (quite similar to 600 indeed, except that the mid-range is warmer, and sound stage a bit smaller). However, the right channel is a bit (but obviously) louder than the left channel. I made several comparisons with a Beyerdynamic DT331 on another computer with onboard sound. For some mysterious reasons, the DT331 has no problem, while the right channel of 580 is still louder... mad.gif

So I went to buy an akg 240M, which has a more charmful mid-range than the 580, to replace this 'problematic' 580. Then I found that the right channel of my new 240M is still louder... blush.gif

There are two possibilities: ( a ) the cables; ( b ) the sound card.

I exchanged the two cables for left & right channel, and the right is still louder. So there's something wrong with my lovely CardDeluxe... ppth.gif

I checked the output +4/-10dB jumper first. it was set to -10. correct. then the input jumper, also -10. But I found another input jumper which was set to +4. Finally I realized that the two channels have seperate selection jumper. What a mistake I had made yucky.gif

Hope this is helpful for those who will invest for good sound cards~~

  2. Hi,

The akgs I have owned are K501, K240DF, K1000. They are very low-efficient headphones with great vocal and classical music playback. Also the least fatigue-causing dynamic headphones I know.

I had an audition of 271S and 240M in asia sound this afternoon. A cyrus cd (7?) and integreated amp were used to drive both headphones (maybe unfair to 271S due to its low impedance). The 240M has a full-bodied sound with more bass than 240DF (however a bit dull compared to DF). I don't like the K271S much: the sound is too clean and too oppressive perhaps because of the closeback design.

hope that some comments could be given by other 271s users tongue.gif

  3. There have been people doing experiments on driving HD580 & 240DF using a M.F. A500 int amp, but i'm not sure whether the sound is as good as dedicated amps. Perhaps you could borrow some high impedance headphones to test on your YBA to see if the sound is acceptable.

The resistor in the image is mainly for protection and sound adjustment, as said by the people. If you could read chinese, here's the original post:

    Hope it helps cool.gif

  4. hi sayhitojason,

you can try some headphones from the spk out of your integreted amp before you buy any headamps. (you need to diy a conversion cable from spk out to 1/4 headphone jack)

I have listened to k1000 on a YBA DT for a short while before. Although it's reluctantly acceptable, it could be good for other 'normal' high impedance cans: AKG 240DF, 240M, BEYER DT880. For me these 3 cans give very good vocal and classical performance biggrin.gif

  5. Hi, just received my k1000 yesterday. Before getting a dedicated amp, i need to use it on my current tube amp for hd600. Does anyone know where i can get a converter from its XLR to normal 1/4'' Jack, or I have to diy? wink.gif Thanks you!

btw, I heard that some power amps do not accept the 4-pin connector comes with the k1000, does it mean that I also need to diy a converter with real speaker connection? Really dun know anything about pwr amps blush.gif

    Regards,
