vincent159 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 Hi, I am going to buy a zalman clip on mic for my gaming purposes. Description says it is a omni-directional mic, but i don't really understand what is this.. What's the difference between an omni-directional and a uni-directional mic? Most importantly, how much does it cost? where do i buy it? I searched the net and im not sure whether they gave what currency. Thanks in advance.
stargazer 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 Omni & uni direction almost same meaning as pick-up polar pattern are almost 360 degrees (correct me if I'm wrong) whereas if you see directional mic that means they are cardioid approximately less than 160 degrees ! If I wasn't mistaken B & H Trading is distributing the Zalman products!
heady 0 Report post Posted June 25, 2010 I think uni-direction mics are mostly cardioids. These pick up sound mostly from one direction. For gaming use, if you are listening to speakers, a unidirectional mic properly placed, will pick up more of your voice and less music. While an omnidirectional mic will pick up all sounds in your room, including your voice.
