A9x and those older ones , (w100 included I think)don't have this new implementation. it's supposed to provide with a better soundstaging and bass, if I recall correctly. And yes.. A900 and A9x are not the same . Infact A900 is meant to actually 'replace' the older A9x models. What about the review in head-fi? I think not many people have owned the audio technicas so it's hard to gather the comments from here.
