Headphone/headset rec for gamers?

Looking to buy good quality headphones/headset for gamer cousin's birthday in late January. Hoping to get one compatible with his ASUS PC and Xbox 360. Not a gamer myself, so not too sure what's ideal.

 

Budget is about $150 (small salary + running low on savings lol) but might be able to stretch. Under $100 still preferred.

 

Had a look at this massive review thread earlier, isolated the following:

 

- Sennheiser PC 330 or PC 360

- Skullcandy SLYR

 

Problem is, those Sennheisers are quite costly and I heard Skullcandies tend to break easily even though this is a newer model. So I'm looking for recs RE: what type to buy and where to pick them up.
