Cost of Books/Reference Books in Oz

I see quite a number of people here that have furthered their education in Austrialia or are in contact with ppl in Australia.

Some are still furthering their studies over there, or are actually Australians.

 

My friends are thinking of starting a venture in relationship to books or references that are relevant to courses of studies in Aust, esp colleges or of higher learning.

 

I've heard that books there cost twice as much as Singapore or perhaps elsewhere.

Is this true?

If it is so, is there an explanation as to why?

Perhaps something said by the authorities.

 

In the decision of setting up the venture, my friends and I have thought of taxation, copyright etc issues that give the books such high cost.

 

Hope you guys here can give some help/input to help this poor forumer be an entrepreneur!
