red_ryder 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2004 Is it true that if you are playing back SACDs on a stereo setup (i.e. on headphones) it will be downconverted to pcm?
fuwen 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2004 As far as I know, no! I have been playing back SACDs on my marantz SA-14 in 2 channels mode. I felt that is much superior to CD format, apple to apple. However, on dual format SACDs there is a layer of SACD data and a layer of CD data. In conventinal CDP it will play back in the normal (I guess is PCM ) mode. Not sure is this the answer u want. Wombat_VC 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2004 Certain (cheaper) universal players (not sure exactly which one) would convert DSD to PCM before DAC. If you have a dedicated SACD player, then there should be no such problem, be it 2CH or MCH.
Audio 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2004 Depend on the SACD itself. (1) If the SACD is non Hydrid SACD, then the audio from the disc can be 5 channel or stero at the high bit rate. This is NOT PCMed. (2) If the SACD is a Hydrid and you select the CD section , then you get PCM. If you select SACD, then you will get SACD sound as mention in item (1).
