How to extract audio from movie clip?

Any idea how to extract the audio from video clips, ie avi etc format?

I was thinking of extracting the bgm and SFX for a powerpoint presentation.

 

Was thinking of looping from headphone out to mic.use sound recorder to record.

Sound very low-tech but tts wat i can come up with.

Quality wise so so will be alrite

But didnt have male-male cable currently.

Will it work?

I'm asking in regards to free method, cos i did find some programs tt does the job
