PC for digital imaging

Recommended Posts

Noz, you mentioned that the PC is purely for imaging purposes? If that is case, I would suggest setting some money aside to get proper color calibration equipment for your monitor. It is to make sure that what is displayed on screen is what you get when you print out. On the same token, the choice of monitor is important, more so than the CPU or harddisk. I dunno what monitor to recommend, but you might try getting recommendations from the color calibration vendors.

Harddisk and RAM you can always add another one down the road, but how many people will change their monitors once they've bought one? I strongly suggest doing your homework on getting the best monitor you can afford.

Also, do consider getting an AMD64 system instead of the P4. It's cheaper and faster.

Thanks for your recommendations. It's something to consider. That said, I'm only doing this as a hobby for fun. I was thinking maybe I should just make my life simpler & go with the new 17" iMac G5 but that's not the direction where I want to go since I already have the Powerbook. Sadly AMD64 systems are not that much different in price compared with the P4 here. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. Like you said I think I need to do a little more homework, that coupled with the other 101 things to do at home & during weekends!
