gaming headset or headphone for FPS gaming

for FPS gaming like CS where exact location of footsteps, gunshots, explosions are important, is the gaming headset or a headphone better at that?

 

my 2 choices currently are steelsound 5h v2 and sennheiser hd 555. the hd 555 is surely a better all round performer but i'm looking at which is better for my purpose.. what you guys think?
