wind30 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2007 an update. I just bought a ipod nano 4gb... After testing with so many DAPs I have come to the conclusion that the nano is the best fit for me in terms of hiss and portability. Yes, the nano still hiss but it is significantly less than the zen and is bearable to me. The zen is loud enough to distract you during the quiet portion of the recording but the nano is not noticeable unless you are listening for the hiss. Another thing about the nano is that there is line out in case I want to get a tomahawk or something. BUT the problem with the nano is that it crackles VERY LOUDLY during powerup... and sometimes during plugging in of headphones. VERY BAD for the ears. nothing is perfect...
