Thanks for all the suggestions. I finally settled on a Creative Zen X-fi. Slimmer and much lighter than the D2, has a decent external speaker for times when I find my iems fatiguing, coupled with fairly good sound quality. For those worried about hiss, no discernible hiss with the um2s, one of the most sensitive iems on the market. Now if only I can get my um2s fixed asap...
