most 10-40uF caps have been replaced with BG NX-HiQs 47uF, cept those 3 in the bottom right on the front, that're using 220uF NX-es

there're only three caps that need >12v, one of them's replaced with a cerafine (on the front of the card)

and of course the 2 huge caps at the back are 1000uF 25v NX-es

could large caps in those positions actually "slow" the sound, since they'll take a lil longer to charge up?

I'm running my headphones straight from the card. no amp happy.gif so no additional "gain" to worry about

    dc offset's about 4-6mV

  2. short answer: the front panel's pretty cramped up with that big knob. not much space to work sleep.gif

sound-wise, still burning in. for now, at least its dead-silent. no hiss, no hum, no troubleshooting to do. hehe

  3. just finished a Pimeta

    amp-building's real good for de-stressing rolleyes.gif

comes with a fancy box that looks a lot like the one Sony uses for their SA5000 (note the stand is not included)

build quality is good, but somewhat plasticky with lil squeaks on the frame, but these list at only $179 at our beloved Hung Brothers, you can't expect too much for that price

but like the HP890, I think they're an absolute bang-for-the-buck. they're extremely comfortable with an adjustable headband, and soft velvety cushions. They're semi-open, so they do cut out a lil bit of noise, without sounding closed in. Sound-wise, they're right up my alley. Note: I've always been a fan of brightish sound, with an aversion to overly-warm, "veiled" sounding cans, and these sound just right to me. Soundstage is very nice (Philips did design these for use with their surround sound headphone system) with their angled drivers. Details are very good but bass may be a lil anemic to some (to me, its just right, not too much, and nice and tight) Vocals are lush and rich-sounding, far from thinnish/bright cans like the Sony 7506s for example.

All in all, they're definitely keepers. All the qualities I like in a headphone at a price you can't argue with. They remind me so much of my previous favourite-can, from what I can remember. (If you don't know what they are, you can make a guess from the SGheadphones icon user posted image )Anybody else own these? I'd love to see if you guys agree with my opinions . smile.gif

  5. never did, and still don't understand electronics, but I CAN follow instructions and solder accordingly happy.gif

    so following the thread here:

    http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread....25&page=1&pp=20

    mainly summarised in this pic:

    we have this:

basically swapped out the stock caps with slightly higher valued caps of the "purple" variety

    removed buffer opamps, buffer caps

removed 2 560ohm output resistors too, so I can drive headphones directly

    replaced jrc opamp with ad8620

anything else I should do (undo)?

  6. thanks guys(/girls) biggrin.gif

    yeah I'm two today haha

sorry I haven't been talking much, but as always I've been checking every once in a while to make sure things are still running smoothly around here, and it all still looks good, no thanks to my very capable team of moderators of course happy.gif
