  1. Just confirmed it 10 mins ago. My DT431s are indeed crackling. Tried on the Internal Affairs 2 movie OST. Track 2. Bass heavy. The DT431s were breaking up. It's not the MP3 player, cos I tried the same track on CD with my CDplayer. So, also means it's not the encoding of the MP3, especially since I ripped it from the CD I have. It's not the headamp, cos I tried it direct out from the MP3 player. So, also means it's not the headamp clipping. At low volumes, no crackling, higher (2 oclock on the knob), it starts to crack. I tried the mp3 player direct out, headamp, CD player using the PX200. No such crackling. I got a lemon. And I initially thought it's the output from the mp3 player being maxed out causing the problem. Does Hung Brothers do one to one exchange? It's less than a week old. upset.
  2. Huihong, you are using the PX200? With the Muvo2? Do you find it a slightly muffled combination?
  3. hahha. I wasn't able to. thanks for your help guys. I was out of town yesterday. And I didn't bring the charger cuz can charge using USB right? Anyway, I went to sleep after taking the battery out, and this morning when I woke up, I was treated to a working MUVO. I really can't tell what was wrong. The player is now in perfect condition. Why? Dunno. But I got this nagging feeling that it might happen again...
  4. PM to tropicalrips is free. haha. kidding. Anyway, I am quite new to headamps but just to share something. I got a Creek OBH-11 headamp. I hook it up to the MUVO, I have to end up cranking it up a bit before it gets to a comfortable volume. MUVO output scales from 0-25, I am at 25, and the volume pot on the obh-11 is as 2 oclock. Might be my hearing though. I think it's probably got to do with the output from the muvo. So, when I am on the muvo, sound cracks a bit, probably due to the maxed out volume.
  5. You know, I've always loved my flatlines. Can't look cooler than them. After all these years. Though I admit they are not that great sonically....
  6. My new cans (now 5 days old). Running in for a while already. Still very bright. Yikes, going to try to rectify the problem (at least to me).
  7. Liang Zhu (Butterfly lovers) - in violin. I can even feel the story flow with the music. No?
  8. Hi Boxer, you got it already? Hung has both, But I think it's OBH11SE (iirc $495) and OBH21 ($505). Not sure but I dun think I saw a OBH21SE there.
  9. Cable Skeptics. Well, talking about that, I was one myself. But I remember the first time I heard a difference in cabling setup, I was convinced myself and from that point onwards, became more critical when it came to cable setup and have always used cables to match or slightly boost a system in the areas where it needs help. This sounds very methodological but honestly, when it comes to doing it, is more subjective than anything. The song which I heard differences in cabling was Kit Chan's song, Zi Yao Gong Ni Huo Yi Tian, the song in Snow Wolf Lake. Superb acoustics, superb recording, no instruments (in the beginning), just her voice. With different cables, you can pick out small naunces in her voice and the depth of field/imaging/soundstage is different. Quite amazing. All this experimentation done courteousy of a friend trying to prove cabling differences to me. No comments from him, very unbiased experimentation. From then on, I was more atuned to what to listen out to. Having a friend with a sharp ear helps. Then again, all the above are based on my preference for music. For someone else, it may not apply to the kind of music they listen to. Or even taste of that particular form of music might differ.
  10. Wow! This is totally well said! I used to tell a friend, that as long as the system is to your liking, why you bother with the review and what others are listening to? Yes, you do not get an amp to alter the sound to the liking. But you have to think in terms of overall system coloration. For example, if your amp and cans are sounding overly bright for you (may be alright to another person), you want to tame it down with cables tonally biased towards mids and lows.
  11. Hi all, Has anyone experienced this with the Muvo2? It refuses to turn itself on. Ocassionally, it would come on for a couple of seconds, show that 'loading music' thingey, get to the first song (without playing), show that the battery charge is 2 (TWO) bars, and then turn itself off again. Happening now. I am out of town and have no access to the charger, and I am wondering if it's because I was charging it using USB. Yikes! I am pissed. I am going to be without music on the flight back home tomorrow!!!
  12. Actually, if the amp is not really neutral, I am sure it will impart some kind of 'sound alteration' to the music. I mean, if you think about it, even cables can alter sound, much less a series of cables, solder, electronics, chips and knobs... just for discussion, you cool?
  13. I just thought that due to the low impedence, it is mostly un-neccesary unless you are trying to alter the sound to your liking. LekGuan, I like your recommendation of getting a good PCDP with a good headout. At least, when you want to spend on the amp again in the future, you've got a good headout to begin with already.

Thanks brother, really appreciated. I will hit SLT on thursday when I get back. Can't wait to try out your recommendation!
  15. hi bpribadi, how much do they cost? I was at hung, couldn't see anything that caught my eye for portability other than the px100/200.
  16. but of course, you can't beat it for capacity. I am happily putting albums upon albums into the muvo2.
  17. I thought earphones shouldn't need much amplication. Not sure lar. I thought I didn't hear much difference with my sony ex71s when I amped them. Louder yes, but that's about it. They were pretty loud in the first place already.
  18. In-ear buds cannot lar. When you sweat, they will slip out easily. And the microphonics will probably drive you crazy. I hated walking around with them so I can't imagine running around with them. Not only that, when you are not panting, you can already hear the breathing, can't imagine if you are panting. Clips are probably the most suitable but I am not sure if the plastic over the ear is going to be comfortable or will cause abrasion.

Shucks... I should have gone to SLS later today... couldn't wait and went down and now back to office already. Ok, I will remember this and go there on thursday after I am back in town. Anyway, how much would the entire thing cost? 3 plugs + cables eh?
  20. Ok, I just bought a pair of PX200 from Hung Bros 20 mins ago. I think the sound is fine, and for portability, it's probably one of the more decent ones you can get now. I tried the Beyer DT231 alongside. I liked the sound from the DT231 much better over the senn PX200. Sound is in another league of refinement. I was tempted to go for the DT231 but heck, I went there with the intent of getting something portable which I wouldn't mind wearing around so I just stuck to my initial decision of getting the PX200. Surely will fit into my briefcase or cabin luggauge bag better without worrying about spoiling them. And my mp3 player will drive them without me having to lug a headamp on my travels.
  21. Hi jason, that's true. It has a higher output current, rated at 30mW, most other flash based ones will be rated at about 10 or thereabouts. I like the muvo2. It uses microdrive. and microdrive has traditionally been slow.

Mackie, you are dead right about Nordost cables. They *are* lean. Brings out too much of the brightness in a system. But I find them totally unmatched to systems which are sounding bright out of the box. Anyway, your suggestion sounds like a solution for me now. The setup is currently a little harsh on the highs, and if it rolls the treble off, even better. Are those DIY cables? I can't seem to get my stuff done right when I do DIY so I prefer to buy them ready made. LHS at SLT has these? May I trouble you to let me know which floor the shop is on?
  23. Oh, I suppose that's the case also, I believe the DAC for SACD is different from the normal CD one. So, putting two high end chip inside is bound to be expensive. Only some components can be shared, like the output stage.
  24. I haven't heard a better statement to persuade anyone from basing their purchase on the specs! I used to use an example of a telephone. Human voice range is in the low 2-3KHz. The phone is able to handle that, but why does your hifi sound better? Simply because of the fact that in that 2-3KHz, there is more quality in the hifi. CDs today are rated from 20Hz to 20KHz anyway, higher specs equipment can't add details to whatever isn't already on the disc. If the high specs equipment sounds better, it's because it's good at handling the 20-20KHz range, not because it can handle the range outside. So, even a headphone amp (20-20KHz) will benefit a SACD player (5-100KHz), because it helps the range that matters.
