  1. Already SOLD to a nice gentleman! Hi! I'm selling my Audio Technica ATH-CKS70. Bought at 19 Dec 2009, only used for a few hours. Condition is still very good like new, the silicon buds have been cleaned, and have been packed back to it's original package since early January until now. I have 'burnt-in' this IEM for more than 5 days. This IEM is very comfortable for me, fit my ears very well, but too much bass for my taste. Selling at: SGD 75.- >> SOLD << (Price reduced at 11 Nov 2010, from SGD 100.-) Or pay only SGD 90.- to get bundle of the ATH-CKS70 + a new pair of Hippo Boom!!! 2. Thanks for the guide Morgan ! Some iPod LODs I made with Wireworld Oasis 5 and Canare L-2E5
  3. That's true, monitor headphone is designed to be durable, and comfortable, with good frequency response. Try it, you will love it. I compared with Grado RS-1 that cost many times M50, and I still prefer the sound of M50, especially the big and beautiful bass of M50. ATH-M50 is a die2 must try headphones
  4. In your price range, try Audio Technica M50. It is my favorite headphone for price range below SGD 300.-. Want to write small review about it since a few months back, but didn't find the time I would say, for the sound and price, audio technica ATH-M50 is in the 'die die must try' category FYI, the ATH-M50 comes with coiled cable, the ATH-M50s comes with straight cable. http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphon...be4d/index.html http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ATHM50
  5. Sony PFR-V1 looks interesting. Ear speakers, with bass delivered directly to the ear canal via the extended bass reflex ducts. Has anyone tried? Just launched (USD 399.-), maybe not yet available in Sgp. http://www.ugamm.org.mo/forum/attachments/...X6LMYpHq3sB.jpg http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores...552921665445270 http://news.sel.sony.com/en/press_room/con...ease/33682.html http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/26/sony-pf...fones-ears-off/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/dcdomain/2679221549/ http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/musicplay/acc...3384955p,00.htm
  6. Not true, the old mylar is better and sturdier. The new mylar is a disappointment from both sound and build quality. I have (had) all the mylars. I once bought both the old mylar X3 and XB. Then I pass the mylar X3 to my dad, and now using XB for already more than 6 months without any complaint. I just crumpled them in my bag, no pouch or case, and it seems durable enough. My Dad and brother also using the old mylar, so far no complaint. The new mylars, I bought both X3i and XBi. After using for a few hours, the plastic housing all detached from the driver, both left and right. Very bad quality The XBi, still ok, because only test for about 30 minutes, and decided to sell as it doesn't suit my taste. The new mylars are very BAD
  7. >>> SOLD <<< Hi, I'm selling my newly bought CrossRoads Mylarone XBi. Reason to sell, it doesn't suit my taste. After around 15 hours 'brake in' I tested it for less than half an hour, then I decided to sell it. I have washed clean the silicon rubber, the medium size, the ones that I used for testing. Other sizes (Small, Large, and Bi-Flanges) are still new. Selling for SGD 50.- (non negotiable) Self collect at Bedok or Simei MRT. Standard package with standard accessories as shown in pictures. Those who interested please sms me at 96701610 (pm response will be slow, as I seldom visit this forum) Thanks!
  8. I just bought Mylar X3i and Mylar XBi, the new Mylars that received rave review on the net. Also got chance to listen to Sony MDR-EX85LP, and the super expensive Shure SE530. This is not a proper test or review, just personal opinion. Mylar X3i and XBi on Head-fi Shure SE530 Sony MDR-EX85LP Also comparing them with my favorite Mylar XB (the old version). The new mylars, XBi and the X3i, have been broken-in for about 15 hours. Maybe not long enough But frankly speaking I'm dissapointed with the new 'i' series The old Mylar XB and MylarThree, are better in my opinion. In-short, the new Mylar 'i' series are far from balance. The bass and mid bass is simply too much and out of proporsion The X3i is somewhat still 'listenable', but the XBi to me is a waste of money. I'm really wondering how come some people can gave them highly recommendation for these models. The Bass is too much and boomy, the mids is muddy, and the highs is very dull, far from balance and natural sound. To some extend I can still listen to the X3i model, but I cannot tolerate the XBi. Will comment more after longer break-in. The Sony sounds good enough for me, nice balance, smooth sounding, with reasonable good bass. Maybe it doesn't 'byte' for rock music, but classical and jazz fans might like it. Sensitivity is lower than other headphones in the test. The Shure, despite of having 3 micro drivers, it is surprisingly very sensitive, about 15% more sensitivity than the Mylars, so I have to set the volume lower. And it sounds very good, balance throughout the spectrum, very good bass, with good separation. It is also very comfortable for me. But the price sets me off So this is purely sounds comparison, without putting the price into the factor. Will write more when time permits
  9. Thanks! I found the answer on CNET review: "It's also able to playback numerous file formats (MP3, WMA and DivX) burned onto DVDs and CDs, or from a thumbdrive connected to the Oppo's USB 2.0 port." http://reviews.cnet.com/video-players-and-...7-32577127.html Sounds good
  10. Hi All, I'm considering to get OPPO DV-980H: http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/default.asp Some reviews said that the audio performance of this player is excellent for the price. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=879341 Any user experience from this forum? Mind to share? I also would like to know whether this player can play MP3s stored on DVD. The Oppo website didn't state anything about MP3 feature of this player. Thanks!
  11. Hi Heady, thanks for your comments! More opinions is better for all of us who are interested with it
  12. Hung Brothers at Sim Lim Square 3rd level has them.
  13. If you don't mind the type with headband, you can try Koss Porta Pro, best bang for the buck Surely under SGD 100.-
  14. What I heard was a brand new ES7, therefore maybe sounded bright. Maybe the sound characteristic would change after break-in. Therefore I said, it was not a fair comparison, because I tested the ES7 long time ago Thanks for your comments!
  15. I heard ES7 maybe last year, so not really a fair comparison. But If I recall correctly, it is day and night. I mean, I don't like ES7 sounds, it is not a warm headphones. Even if ES7 selling at 50% discount, I simply won't buy, because the sound is just not my type. ESW9 is totally different in flavor. Simply put it this way, If ES7 is chilled coca cola, ESW9 is hot creamy cappuccino Got what I mean
  16. Hi, maybe my mini review might help http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=8193 ATH-ESW9 is very good for vocal, pop, jazz, instrumental, and classics. Might not have enough byte for rock and heavy metal.
  17. I think it is not proper to disclose pricing here, you may check with Hung Brothers, SLS 3rd level. Just roughly it is in the SGD 300 to 400 price range.
  18. Do you mean covering the whole ear by circumaural? Yes, but just nice for me. The diameter is not to big. The lamb skin is ok, not warm. Long listening is quite comfortable. Regards,
  19. Yes, Panasonic PCDP and Pimeta. Op-Amp AD 8066. It also sounds good with Zen Micro Photo. So I guess not the difficult type. Not sure if there is any headphone that is not colored Starting from the microphone used by the singer, there is already mix and match, they will match the mic that has color suitable for the singer. After that during mastering, effect such as reverb added to the tracks, which add more color. I really don't know what it means by not colored What I know is, there is no uncolored audio device, even cable will add color to the sound quality. What I want is nice colors Music to my ears, that's it
  20. Thanks! Well, I think sound stage wise, open design cans such as Grado will have the advantage over the closed design. I don't know any other cans with open design. But you can try Grado SR-80, the review is also good. But open design is only suitable in quiet environment. I've never tried BeyerDynamic DT250 or the Sennheiser Hd 25. But I ever listened Heady's Beyerdynamic DT880, a few years ago. Recalling from my memory, I think it was warmer than ESW9, but need to compare it again to make sure. Cheers!
  21. Recently I bought Audio Technica ATH-ESW9 for my brother. After 'break-in' for about 11 hours (I know it might not be long enough), I tested it with Chesky 'Ultimate Demonstration Disc' and some of my favorite songs. The more I listen to it, the more I like it This is a balanced, natural, and sweet sounding headphones, with a very good bass. The sound characteristic is different from Grado, where ESW9 more to the natural, warm, and slightly laid back sounding. While Grado is towards the bright and 'upfront' sounding. ESW9 is the type for long hours listening that less likely will cause ears fatigue. Please note that ESW9 impedance is 42 ohms. I tested it with my headphone amplifier, so no problem with driving it. With my Creative Zen Micro Photo MP3 player, I have to set the volume to about 70-90% from max to get the normal listening level (usually 50-60% from max with my Crossroads Mylar XB). And so far I have no problem with sound quality driving it with my Creative Zen (portable MP3 player). Not sure if MP3 player with single AAA battery would be able to drive it properly. I have ATH-EW9 and ATH-CK7 at home. I also ever listened my brother's ATH-EC7 and ATH-CM7Ti. So I've some experienced with Audio Technica cans. I also had Grado RS-1, that used to be my reference. The Bass I like bass:) I usually not impressed with other audio technica bass from the models above, but ESW9 is very different. The bass is very good, just nice, big enough, but never overcome the mids. I like Grado RS-1 bass, with that as reference, I can say the ESW9 bass is very good, big and balanced. The Mids The mids is very important, and ESW9 excels. I think the mids is what audiophile wants, thick and warm, sweet sounding. Vocal sounds very good. Added 6th Dec 2007: After more listening, I think the mids is somewhat a bit too thick and warm. Well I do like it, but I must say it is depend on personal preference. Something like tube sound, which is actually slightly colored sound, some may like it, some may not. The Highs I would say, silky smooth highs. Never sound sharp or harsh. Tested with cymbal, loud saxophone, and vocals with lot's of 'sss', all sound sweet and natural. For the highs, I prefer ESW9 than Grado RS-1. ESW9 sounds balanced throughout the audible spectrum, kudos to Audio Technica! Details Currently i use Crossroads Mylar XB for my portable. Compared to Mylar XB as an isolated in-ear cans, I think I can hear slightly more details with ESW9. I know it is not fair to compare them, as ESW9 priced about 5x Mylar XB, but this is just for your information only, that ESW9 is good with details, with Grado-RS1 only wins with a slight margin. Imaging The imaging / sound stage is also good, but not as good as Grado RS-1. As with all closed chamber headphones, it is not easy to make a natural sounding, closed headphone chamber. Grado excels in imaging, one of the factor I think, is because it is an open design, no chamber coloration. But the ESW9 Hokkaido cherry wood chamber does a very good job, so far the imaging sounds natural, but not as open and wide as Grado-RS1. Grado sound stage is more open and wider. Comfortability The relatively narrow lamb skin pad is quite comfortable, it doesn't make me perspire (in Singapore non air conditioned living room). But I felt it pressed my ears a bit hard, would be more comfortable if AT loosen the head band a little bit. My verdict for ATH-ESW9 (for < SGD 600 price range): Sound quality: 9 Imaging: 7 (changed at 6th Dec 2007) comfortability: 7 Added 6th Dec 2007: After considering Grados with open design type, I think Grados has better imaging, wider and more open, so I brought down the imaging to 7, which is about the average imaging for this type headphones. What I mean by imaging is impression of how wide and realistic the stage imaging we can imagine from what we heard. Sound quality brought down to 9, because the mids somehow close to tube sound which might not suite some people. But for me, I like the mids, and would give a 10 Pros: Quite natural and sweet sounding. Well balanced sound throughout the audible spectrum. Very good bass. Good build and quality. Good price for the quality. Cons: Head band press a bit hard, not the most comfortable headphone. Might not 'byte' for rock music (Added 6th Dec 2007) For the price, it is Highly Recommended! Might get a pair for myself
