I saw the Nikon D70 for sale B$2,200.00 before discount. It comes with a zoom lens which I couldn't quite make out what it was. Is that a good price to start from? Also saw the Minolta Dimage A2 at $1,200.00 & Canon Powershot A75 for less than $500.00.

Yeah the D70 is a good DSLR to start wif, that is if u do not have any Canon lens lying around (if u start wif nikon u would be stuck wif nikon and so it may also be a good idea if you can find out some prices on the lens, flash etc. You can do the same thing wif Canon as well. For the canon model try to go for the 20D). This price should come with the lens kit, if not then forget it.

Also, it would be best if you can have a feel of the equipment before making a decision. Try out both the Canon and the Nikon and decide which is better.

  4. Hi all,

Finally got my home rig (thanks to Mackie and N3w and Majie).

    Source: Marantz CD 6000OSE

    Headphone Amp: Master Original

    Headphone: Beyer DT990

    ICs: Canare L2T2S

Was trying it out over the weekend and I must say that the whole setup is an excellent one to start-up and keep if ever i were to upgrade in the future. It may be still too early for anything, but I must say that I am particularly impressed with the bass of the DT990. It's simply mind-blowing for open cans. I was listening to Usher's Confessions CD and the bass of the cans was just WOW!!! Mind you that I do not like cans whose bass sounds muddied and just thumpy.

Am just enjoying my music now and will be continuing to burn-in the gears longer so that I can post a better finding in the future.

Again, thanks to all who have taken their time for their advise and auditions. biggrin.gif

  5. Posted some shots over at Pbase: www.pbase.com/blessedviknesh

Equipment used: Canon EOS300D with a 17-40L f4 and 70-200L f4 lenses. Alas sold off my equipment cos no time to use. no.gif Now in the market for a compact digicam. Looking at the Sony DCS P100 or the T-series. Any recommendations?

  6. Wat about the new G5 Imacs?? Kewl design and pretty affordable as well. Other than the downside of bundling with crappy RAM size and non-wireless bundled as well. Waiting for reviews of first batch first. My peecee desktop died on me, so now waiting for this baby to replace it. biggrin.gif

  7. I just called KEC and the salesman was saying that the CD5400 costs S$299 and the 6000LE costs S$449. Whcich is more value for money?

Yo go down and listen to the player .... ok .. i own the 6000OSE .... it nice .... but i wanna upgrade too but but I am totally short of $$$$$$$$ @ rolleyes.gif

Will most definitely do that. Thanks.

Too bad they do not have stock for the 6000LE (at the moment). Will probably pop in on Saturday though.

  8. I gotta disagree with Ma6Jia. The proposed budget and system make-up deserves a source better than a portable. If U wanna have a dose of Marantz CD5400, try it at KEC, 1st floor Adelphi. Otherwise, bring your headphones (whatever it's gonna be) to Sembawang Music (cd chain stores) for they use CD5400 as demo machines. Of couse, be diplomatic and ask for permission before proceeding and use their cds for audition, lest they find out about your hidden agenda. LOL

  9. u budget is 500-1000 for source + i/c + amp + hp.

It's very important to get a decent source(CDP), this is what i will tell a new audio adventurer. I'm a new audio adventurer also. tongue.gif Get used stuff as it will save u $$$.

my -2ct suggestion is as below:

    source 500 - 600

    i/c < 50

    amp < 150-200

    hp < 250-300

Any recommended brands for source at that price?

  11. First and foremost, U will be seeking semi-open/close-back cans (most isolation) and this criterion would narrow your choices down to a few. As for headamp, choices are also limited as only a handful of hifi shops deal in these lesser cousins to speaker amps. Those that are available are Sugden, Musical Fidelity, Naim, Cayin, Creek etc. U also have to decide on tube-based or solid state amps and since U're a total newbie in this hobby, I recommend solid-state amps without fuss.

The first thought that strikes me is Master Original amp

    partnered with the following:

I have used these cans with my Original Master amp and thus made the above suggestions. Pm me if U wish to audition them as a system. Owing to your choice of source ie I-pod, I recommend DT660 for its more forgiving nature whereas the other two would reveal the source's weakness a whole lot more.

    Hi Mackie,

Do you know where they sell this is S'pore? What is the impedence range that it can drive (min to max). How is the bass level in this amp cos I am not a basshead (thumping bass). but do enjoy moderate bass, can't do totally w/o bass either. biggrin.gif

  12. The original buyer backed out of the completed transaction. Since I won't be going to SG anytime soon & I don't want to fork out the expense of having them shipped back to me, this headphone is now back up for sale. Asking for $200 or PM me your best offer (and for any related queries).

Which headphone amp would u recommend this to go with. Curretly I am using the E3Cs and now looking to set-up a home rig (headphone closed, amp and CDP). My thread is here http://www.sgheadphones.net/index.php?showtopic=2598

Any recommendations on this would be a great help. Thanks.

  13. Thank you all so much for your replies.

To get a few things clear, my source for home use is not the ipod. I'm looking into a source as well, CD player etc. The source for my portable rig is my Ipod.

Basically, I'm looking for something that when I come back home from work I can sit down and chill in my own world of music. So also am lookin for a bean chair as well. biggrin.gif

Hope this sheds more light to what I am looking for.

Mackie, how much does ths set-up that you are using cost? Also, I got a recommendation for the Creek OBH 21 model for S$480 in SLS. Is it good?

As for the upgrading bug............. well I'm alreday infected by it with my H/P, Camera eqpt etc etc. ARGH!!! It's too late now for me.

So now I am trying to invest into something that I'll be surely sticking to which is my music. I listen to music in one way or another every single day so I guess why not invest.
