  1. Update to post above . . . Managed to troubleshoot successfully wohoo Apparently the audio jacks I used were wonky haha. I desoldered the jacks, than using wires and croc clips connected the input/ouput pads to the mini-stero plugs directly, and sweet music output finally When seting up the above testing config, I forgot to the connect the output ground to the stereo plug ground, and that produced exactly the same sound as I originally encountered. So I'm guessing one of the audio jacks ground was fried . . . Now I just need to get some switchcraft jacks and reconnect them to the board . . . poor wallet heh. And the OPA2227s definitely sound better in the CMOY2 than in the Go-Vibe, nice work.
  2. Ah . . . got a problem after assembling the CMOY2. I've attached 2 audio files, one is a 1 minute clip of the original song, the other is the output from the amplifier (1.8MB ZIP): Audio File The sound is all distorted: The highs are warped, the bass is non-existent. Only the mids are partially coming through.... I have no idea what is wrong I've checked both OPA2227s in another amp, both work perfectly. All resistor values used are taken from the first page, elec caps are 1000uF 16V Nichicon VR series. Film caps are 0.56uF 63V WIMAs. R11 and LED are not populated nor jumpered. Batteries are GP 8.4V rechargable NiMHs, they've been freshly charged so it's not a case of flat batteries. My soldering skills are rather sub-standard, so I might have fried something along the way haha. Anyone have an idea what could be causing such an 'interesting' output from the amplifier? Thanks. PS: Not sure if Tripod allows hosting of the audio clips, so the link might be dead. But it's tested and working at the point of posting. EDIT: I removed the LM6171 and jumpered pins 2&3, problem still persists. Also connected 2 9Vs in series with the LM6171 installed, problem still there.
  3. that's ok with me. Now i just need to find a cheap drill
  4. O.O Just curious idkfa, do you use the remastered 1997 Special Edition Version or the original one from the 1983 release? Somehow I prefer the old non-remastered version, the remastered one sounds . . . funny Edit: Forgot got another version, the 1990 one by The Skywalker Symphony. That one is too slow for me. Edit 2: My choices would be the Throne Room and Finale from the Skywalker Symphony release, that track has some nice reverb Take Five by Dave Brubeck, and some choir music, preferably with some solo soprano parts.
  5. No prob, you can have the other board. Better than frying 2 BUF634s and an AD8620 I stay around Bayshore Rd, can bring the boards and components down to your place or someother convenient location. I wanted a proper enclosure cause mint tin+jeans pocket=squashed amp haha.
  6. Arrgh, I ordered 2 MINT boards from Tangent intending to try a little more DIYing. The boards arrived yesterday and I suddenly realized the ICs are SOIC packages, not (easy to solder for newbies) DIP-8 packages The MINT uses some fairly pricey parts and I don't trust my almost non existent soldering skills for SMDs... Is anyone here willing to assemble this amp for me (including encasing the thing). I can get all the parts ready beforehand and will reimburse for erm . . larbour Oh and the person assembling can have the other MINT board free
  7. Hi, I'm planning to build one. Just want to check whether the following parts are suitable for the amp? Farnell order links are below: http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...?SKU=767335&N=0 (1000uF Caps) http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...SKU=4237857&N=0 (LED) http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...?SKU=303940&N=0 (Film Caps) http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...KU=149846&N=401 (Film Caps 2) I'm not very sure which film caps to order, but the WIMA ones cost a bloody bomb (not $1 ea as stated in the original posts). Just want to confirm b4 ordering. And the volume pots are out of stock at Farnell. Any alternate locations to get it? Thanks.
