  1. Try LHS in simlim tower. Not sure if they will do for you but the resident cable assembler there is pro.

Also if you run out of luck in SLT you can try

    Byteron Electronic Trading

    Sim Lim Square

    1 Rochor Canal Road #04-04

    Singapore 188504

    Tel: +65 6336 3132 (Irene)

Saw her repairing some loose components when buying some cables from her.

  2. hey thanks for all the tips and aegis for your offer.

But I just took the lazy man's solution. A bit childish i.e. don't like what you see just use magic marker.

at the end of the day, it's just a back panel la, cannot be too sad. Maybe I'll try sanding/painting it if I ever choose to sell it. Basket this project taking so long with parts missing here and there don't even know if it'll run or explode...

  3. Hi,

Am currently sorting out my casing for the beta22 im building. Was drilling holes when I stupidly pressed the back panel against the newspaper, and all the metal shavings started scratching it.

So now it looks very very beat up...

Any ideas on how to unscratch/heal/hide those damn blemishes? Am very open to 'creative' ideas.

    thanks in advance

  4. looks nice... :DD how come you didn't just go with the non-polar blackgates?

i got myself one set also but still in the works...prob won't be completed till december.

Am really jealous of your small psu, I bought a sigma11 from www.amb.org. With a toroid it's huge will prob house them in 2 boxes sigh...

  5. yea heady i think i don't have much choice, though im really quite tempted by that 250sgd dact2...will prob end up sticking to alps.

thing is i read a bit about those stepped attenuators and I don't think they will be very good unless you use quality SMD resistors...don't think those DALES will be much good. also damn mafan la

  6. If bulkiness is an issue you can consider the supermini IV. It's bigger than the supermicro IV but still credit card size, and it is considerably thinner. (the new Xin reference amp is also thin worth a listen I'd think)

I have mine with a modded ipod also and an ER4S. Sounds ok I still prefer my home rig by some distance but i'm happy considering the size. My supermini isn't the latest upgrade though so I expect it to sound better now.

In any case I don't know much about portable amps. This page should be useful hope it helps: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.p...portable+review

  7. I remember seeing altoids tins for sale somewhere in the Takashimaya mall, but that was some years back...

you can try Marks and Spencer's 'curiously strong mints' the box is very nice and the lid is tight too. Very good mints also!

  8. hmmm sorry to hear that. In terms of a good and relatively cheap balanced amp I don't think there's any other than the headroom desktop.

You could try searching on www.head-fi.com - balanced amps are really 'the buzz' now on that forum and many designers are creating their own, but not at a good price.

    e.g. (as mentioned by kyaw)

    Ray Samuel's Apache: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=241586 - $3k usd

    Headamp GS-X: http://www.headamp.com/home_amps/index.htm - $17xx usd

Rudistor amps: http://www.rudistor.com/soundsystems/amps.htm - cheapest starting at €950

if budget is not a concern, but something big! :lust:

also have you tried going on http://forum.lowyat.net/Audiophiles ? Malaysian forum which you might find more useful for questions specific to your locality.

  9. some people say iems sound better with customs, but i think you really have to take that with a pinch of salt. My experience with earmolds is that they don't really improve sq much at all. It's really more of a comfort/isolation thing. Really, really, alot more comfortable than stock tips

So I'd get B, though I agree with you on your dap. you could head down to jaben/SE and try their portable amp ranges to see if you get anything out of the headphone out, or try their daps with a lineout to see how much better it is.

As regards cost I paid a bit less than 200sgd at Jaben for my custom earmolds for my er4s, and you can get portable amps starting from 50sgd i suspect...

  10. i don't know about marantz or denon; marantz is well rated here but you can also try the cambridge 540/640 series cdps. I own the 540cv2 - the sound is very big, very detailed with a good soundstage if you have the right amp to match. But it tends towards the more 'electronic' sounding type, not as natural as some of the higher end stuff. I think if you go down to adelphi you can find all the players you want.

yep you can plug it straight to your aego ms, just make sure you have a pair of rca cables
