  1. agree with jtfoo I've read some cases abt the pop. physically, it's due to the break before contact to the next one, then potential difference in close proximity will cause spike, hence the pop. but how irritating this thing is, is very subjective. search in head-fi. read ppl's comments in that forum before
  2. blue velvet would still be inferior compared to properly done stepped attenuator and you should choose only one at a time, why would you have two volume control at the same time? unless you've planned to try each one at a time IMO, get the stepped attenuator. btw, do you know wat a stepped attenuator is?

SOHA is also hybrid tube and solid state headphone amp so which hybrid r u talking about? the one by sijosae? using 6922? EDIT: i'm trying to help you troubleshoot as you've mentioned after u took it off breadboard and solder up everything it doesnt work anymore
  4. the crackling sound only those certain songs, and that particular part? might be clipping. can use software to analyze or errrm re-encode, or just leave them be ADD: maybe an encoding flaw too

    kross: are you building SOHA?
  6. if some1 put up the schematic, I can help you not trying to undercut whoever tho' I'm just trying to pass on the know-how

maybe I'll try that all parts easily obtainable

hmm u sure it needs 300mA? those guys at headwize put the filament as 150mA quote off the headwize forum: "Since the tube is a 12AU7 (12.6V/150mA)"

hmm reading from the DIYaudio forum, hence I conclude there's no need to craze all over torroidal the only drawback of EI type trafo is just the leakage flux, which can be dealt with simply by building EM cage around it, cheap and simple

why the 4.7ohm? oh kippei: my board cant fit into that board, but I think you'd be able to fit urs into that case. I've spaced out too much in my worries abt stray EM waves

for op-amp supply: LM317 and LM337 hence I've got dual supply for heater: use LM337, well LM317 will do too if you know where to modify (just reverse the diodes (the two 1N4002)) not really sure why they chose 337 (negative supply instead of positive, just a heater anyway)

seems like all torroidal that's around 6VA rated are OOS in farnell so yeah, u're stuck with that dagnall or this one (even looks neater) http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...SKU=4383904&N=0 plastic encased, PCB mountable too mine will never be haha. I think my trafo can tear apart my cheap board

efficiency. hmm does that affect SQ or just ur PUB bill? 7pin socket, if you've got it off koba, I think you can just swap. try to ask why keep stock when you're not sure about whether you're going to use it in the future comparison of millet and SOHA is still not out yet. darn

socket u go get either from well audio or koba koba being the cheapest ever farnell? within these coming 3 days ( stated to be 4-6 days) high end trafo? hmm get even more expensive one then, a torroidal! hahaa (here: http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...SKU=4334267&N=0 S$25.81) but again, there's no point getting high end trafo. May some1 enlighten me in wat high end trafo provides? if EM waves leakage, mine has no problem at all. clean signal at the output

erm how much? 5 bux or so maybe cant remember EDIT: this kinda trafo can be easily bought in SLT the thing is, are u on holiday? then tomorrow can go get tonight go fix up some of the parts first, PSU parts for example. go go go!
  17. huangyong: u suppose to pass that amp to me !! hahaha in the end u built it up too case, not sure yet might make, might buy see how but now there's totally no noise without any case hahaha so it might join its brother (solid state class A amp), running naked standing on top of a box
  18. want help to get trafo off farnell? coz farnell still owes me some parts if they'd allow, I just add 1 more trafo for u it's way smaller coz mine is rated at 500mA output originally SOHA only needs 200mA output here: http://sg.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...?SKU=159384&N=0
  19. I've measured height width thickness = 60mm * 60mm * 45mm of course you have to give some leeway for mounting and cables, etc EDIT: removed 1 extra zero
  20. erm I am not good in describing why not come over and try? bring watever u wanna compare it against
  21. oh yea both me and my friend havent decided on which casing to use maybe some 30 bux steel case off farnell go build it first. there isnt any need for a case as long as you dont have fluroscent lamp nearby now every single problems solved all due to my mistake combination of stupidity, carelessness and being sleepy when I first assembled them all (it was like 2 AM ) LOL
  22. trafo has its owner already (not me) I'm building 2 SOHAs wat kinda socket? You still havent told me wat socket
  23. I'm getting a grip of this tube thingy after numerous amount of hours spent staring at this damn thing now enjoy first, before I fix another prob
